The preparations for the November Expedition are underway. The German engineers are getting the SENSYS MX V3 equipment with all its associated parts ready. The freight is moving as air and surface cargo from Berlin, Germany, to Montrose, Iowa. We are making an allowance in the shipping time for a few days to clear U.S. Customs. We have already rented space near the site for assembly and storage of the equipment. The success of our search depends entirely upon the science that...Continue reading

In three weeks, we will scan for evidence of that great city of Zarahemla. This will be the first time since the publication of the Book of Mormon that any research group has used the tools of modern science to find the physical evidence of that great city. We look to the text of the Book of Mormon to give us guidance in our search. Beforehand, we think it is useful to identify possible features from the ground that will confirm the City of Zarahemla. Part One: Here are some ...Continue reading

The early history of the Restored Church is a history of people and land. Within the first days of the Book of Mormon's publication, the Prophet's attention focused on the "borders of the Lamanites." God commanded Joseph Smith to organize the Church on Tuesday, April 6, 1830. In that same year, on Friday, May 28, President Andrew Jackson signed into law the Indian Removal Act. A law that authorized the President to grant unsettled lands west of the Mississippi in exchange fo...Continue reading

The text of the Book of Mormon is by far the best place to develop an understanding of its geographical locations. There is no other event in the Book of Mormon with so many details for discovering place and time as found in Alma Chapter 2. The text is a first-hand account for the Battle of Zarahemla in 87 B.C. Any serious student of the geography for the Book of Mormon soon comes to Alma Chapter 2. Millions of students, educators, and scholars have carefully examined the tex...Continue reading

Every true story has inter-related details. The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth require many parts joined together in time and place. Every good map has coordinates that are within a grid. This is a good way to deal with space. Time moves forward. A straight line is a good way to order the sequence of events. The positions and movements of people within a grid of space and on a timeline are essential for discovering the truth of any story. This then is the a...Continue reading

It has taken two years to raise the money. We now have a new donation that allows us to lease the SENSYS MX V3 to begin the magnetic scanning for Zarahemla. This week we made an agreement with the German company, SENSYS, to fly in late November their equipment from Germany to Iowa. Yesterday we contacted ten landowners who farm more than 1,000 acres in Lee County. We are working out the details to gain access to their fields after this year's harvest. The plan is clear. We ar...e looking for the magnetic evidence of ancient habitations that are 2,000 years old when the people of Zarahemla made fires for heating, cooking, and lighting their roundhouses. It would be wonderful if we are able to find evidence of ancient fires for the working of metal. Our 2018 scanning in Ohio demonstrated the effectiveness of the German technologies for the Heartland Research Group. Within a few days, we were able to identify the locations of six roundhouses that were 2,000 years old. In March 2019 in Saarow, Germany, we had the opportunity to become acquainted with Wolfgang Süß, Managing Director, SENSYS Sales & Strategy. During that visit, there was a chance to become better acquainted with German engineers and scientists who are at Nobel Prize-winning levels when it comes to the measurement of magnetic forces. The expertise of German science permits the passive measurement of differential magnetic forces in the ground. Their scanning produces non-evasive, detailed surveys of ancient sites. The German system gives massive amounts of data in a short time. The equipment makes 13 million data readings per acre with a GPS accuracy of +/- 0.25". The equipment can survey as many as 50 acres a day. No other technology produces so much information from the ground in such a short time and at such a low cost. From the SENSYS website, you will see underwater applications of this technology. SENSYS employs 40 highly trained people. The company has a sufficient number of experts in one place that they are able within a very short time to test and evaluate the effectiveness of new processes and techniques. Some of these engineers and scientists have been working for SENSYS for more than 30 years. There is a very close working relationship between SENSYS and the German Archaeological Institute in Berlin. No other archaeological research organization in the world is as highly respected as Deutsches Archäologisches Institut. This institute operates as a "scientific corporation", under the auspices of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany and fully endorses the effectiveness of the SENSYS technology. It seems clear that wherever the Hopewell people lived they cultivated Spotted Bee Balm for the making of powerful medicines. For a thousand years, they used these medicines with great skill and knowledge to treat fevers and infections. There are hundreds of thousands of Hopewell mounds in the eastern half of the United States that locate in an area of one million square miles. Research indicates that Spotted Bee Balm grows today in those areas that are associated with the Ho...Continue reading

It seems clear that wherever the Hopewell people lived they brought with them the powerful medicines that they made from Spotted Bee Balm. For a thousand years, they used these medicines with great skill and knowledge for their treatment of fevers and infections. There are hundreds of thousands of Hopewell mounds within an area of one million square miles. Research shows that Spotted Bee Balm grows today in those areas that are associated with the Hopewell people and culture.... The plant is a living artifact of a lost people who 2,000 years ago clearly understood the health benefits of the essential oils that come from Spotted Bee Balm. The Hopewell people no longer exist as a culture. The scale of their conflict and migration remains a mystery. But it seems clear that it all ended in the 4th century in upstate New York. Much of what the Hopewell people left behind in Western New York was within the limits of small sites where there was likely more information concerning their domestic lives than their military conflicts. Artifacts from these sites show connections to the Hopewell people of Ohio in arts and crafts and within the framework of families and villages. In these sites, there was a unifying culture among these people. It was likely a religion that was the "glue" that held them together. There is not much evidence within the context of domestic settings that affirm that a "state" or "empire" held them together. It was clear that the Hopewell culture came into Western New York from the river valleys of Ohio. It is clear their culture disappeared in the Great Lakes Region.

We are looking for the crossing of the River Sidon by Alma's Army at harvest time in 87 B.C. as found in the Book of Alma, Chapter Two. Our purpose is to establish a basis for the location of the City of Zarahemla. We know that the crossing of the River Sidon by Alma's Army at harvest time in 87 B.C. is an important event for the determination of the physical reality of the City of Zarahemla. This is why we are interested in knowing more about the depths of the water in the K...eokuk Gorge. Certainly, the Robert E. Lee Survey of September 1837 and the soundings from the 1890 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Survey are good places to start. We have used that data. We will continue to push forward on social media to raise money and awareness. In the last 90 days, there have been over 300,000 visitors to the Zarahemla Site Facebook Page. The estimated real cost of the Expedition during the first week of August 2020 was over $100,000. We have put more than $50,000 of our own money into the project and have raised more than $25,000 from more than 300 donors. We did all this with considerable personal efforts. We pray for God's blessings and know that this work can only be done with His blessing. These are some of the first images that are coming from the integration of the modern-day sonar scanning of the Keokuk Gorge with the 19th-century surveys of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Our ultimate purpose is the creation of 3-D models that will be viewable with all their details on the internet. With these 3-D models, it will be possible to view the paths for the crossing of the River Sidon by large armies 2,000 years ago as described by Alma in the most detailed account of any battle in ancient America. Food and medicine from ancient America are one way of connecting the world to the people of the Book of Mormon. Let's start with the world's total production of cereals in 2020. It is more than two and a half billion tons almost 1,000 pounds of cereals for every living person on the earth. Of that total, no other cereal contributes as much food value as corn. Corn accounts for 43% of the world's production of cereals, compared to wheat at 30% and rice at 20%. Let's also lo...Continue reading
