Reading and Northern Railroad 12.12.2020

A note from Andy Muller, Jr. (Owner and CEO - Reading and Northern Railroad) "It is with deep sadness that I must share this email, our chain has been broken. Yesterday we lost an employee, a friend, and yes, a family member. Our brother Bill Frederickson passed away, very unexpectedly. I can’t tell you all the pain I feel. Yes Bill was a family member. I first met Bill very early in my railroad career, probably in 1986. We shared our love of steam engines together for many ...years. Bill, following in his dad's footsteps Duke, was always there to help me. It never went unnoticed. Most of my steam program is thankfully because of four generations of this family who have been here for all of us, and helped make this railroad the success it is today. He will truly be missed. I hope all you fellow brothers and sisters, pray for Bill and his whole family as they go through one of the saddest experiences any family has to face. I hope it helps them a little to know that the first run of the 2102 will not forget Bill, as it will be dedicated to him. He will be with us. Photo credit: Gene Rooney, taken in 2018 at Jim Thorpe.

2102 UPDATE: Work has been progressing here at the steam shop. The 425 ran five busy weekends hauling passengers in Jim Thorpe. The 2102 continues to be put back together as we get closer to a test fire. The firebox is now complete with all new grates installed as well as the stoker elevator, firing table, fire door frame and fire doors. Most of the piping needed for a fire-up is mounted. The two cross compound air compressors have been rebuilt and tested. Work continues unde...r the locomotive as all grease cellars have been taken out to be cleaned and repaired. The last of the lubrication lines are being buttoned up and servicing of the lead/trailing truck roller bearings is completed. We are finishing up rebuilding the air compressor radiator and continue repairs to bracing in the tender coal bunker. The chips continue to fly as we machine 95% of our own parts in house. This has been huge advantage for us and eliminated lots of down time waiting for parts. Look for a test fire in the coming month as we enter the final stage of this momentous project.
