Throwback Time: Old Apparatus. Ford engine. Acquired from the former Valencia VFD at the time of merger. At the time of this photo, it was on loan to the fire school at Butler County Community College. Thus the temporary Engine 49 magnetic signage. Photo credit Scott Thomas.

Throwback Time: Old Timers, 1973. As the year draws to a close, it often causes us all to reflect on various things from the past. This photo captures three stalwarts of the Mars area, all deceased. The final two were lost this year. L-R: Charles Marburger, Donald Aiken, and William Swaney. Those who knew them can picture what they were probably discussing and cutting up over. There's a theme here, one that permeates the concept of community service. Each was active in th...e Mars VFC (and Aiken was a member of Valencia, too). Each had mechanical talent the fire companies relied heavily on. They were community leaders & served in fire company positions as well as elected municipal office. The hours given between the three is probably incalculable. We look back and thank them for their contributions. And we recognize and appreciate the others who continue serving as they did.

From our Department of Public Works : The Public Works Department gives top priority to winter maintenance keeping the roads free of ice and snow to ensure the ...safety of residents and others. We ask that residents remove their vehicles from roads and streets so they can be safely cleared and emergency vehicles can get through, if needed. Please be safe and avoid driving on the roads if not necessary. Thank you !
