DON'T GET STUCK IN THE COLD: SHARE WITH YOUR FRIENDS! Nothing feels better than opening the door to a warm and toasty home when the weather is so cold! The freezing temperatures can take a toll on your locks as well. Here's what to do if your key won't work turn or go into the cylinder during the cold: METHOD 1 DE-ICER (preferred method)... *Buy lock De-Icer. Our experts suggest keeping the De-Icer in your purse or pocket. If your key is stuck in the frozen lock, you may not have access to get into your car or home to grab your De-Icer. *Spray the De-Icer into the keyhole and around the key. GENTLY attempt to turn the key. Patience is key with De-Icer. Keep moving the key and the lock should begin to de-ice. Do not use a lot of force to get the key to turn. If you're unable to make progress with the De-Icer, call Ace Lock. METHOD 2 HEATING THE KEY (worst-case scenario option) This method is to be used only in absolute emergencies and with extreme caution! Overheating your key can lead to injuries and lock damage! *Gently heat your key. A warm key can de-ice a lock in a pinch. Use the same method of gently moving your key back and forth to begin to melt the ice. Again, patience is required to gain a positive result. Our locksmiths say remaining calm is essential in this situation. If the lock doesn't budge after these steps, call Ace Lock. We will send a highly-trained experienced technician to you. Keep Ace Lock's number in your phone, carry De-Icer and breathe! Warmer days are ahead! De-Icer, sound advice, and reliable service is all available at Ace Lock. Due to today's modern world, at Ace Lock we feel it is our duty to educate our customers and potential customers alike on how to chose a locksmith. Many illegitimate "locksmiths" prey on customers who are in vulnerable situations. Unfortunately, the legitimacy of a locksmith is not always black and white. There are a red flags and questions to ask when you are looking for a locksmith: *Ask the locksmith if they have a physical location. If the locksmith has a Yelp or Google ...address, ask if you can come to the listed address. Most locksmiths that claim to be "mobile locksmiths" are not legitimate locksmiths. *Ask about the service charge for a lock out. Most legitimate locksmiths will have a flat rate for a lock out. If the company is charging you by the kind of lock, you may want to take your business elsewhere. This can lead to a locksmith taking advantage of customers on site. If the price just doesn't feel right or the explanation for the price increase doesn't seem to be justified, be sure to ask if you will be charged for the estimate. At Ace Lock, we do not charge you for our time to quote you a price for the job and we do our best to offer you an accurate description of the price over the phone. *Ask the dispatcher if the locksmith is licensed, bonded, and insured. The answer should be a firm yes and don't be afraid to ask for documentation. A legitimate locksmith shouldn't be put off by these questions. *Does the locksmith only have an 800 number? This could be a potential red flag. While Ace Lock and many other reputable locksmiths provide a toll free 800 number, we also have a local exchange as well. Your call to 1-800... may not be going to a local locksmith. *What does the internet have to say? With review sites today, it is very easy for consumers to glean a general impression of their potential locksmith. Telling reviews for illegitimate locksmiths often include key phrases such as: "...didn't check my I.D. when I was locked out..." "...charged me depending on the kind of lock..." "...charge for estimates..."
