Allegheny Cemetery 09.12.2020

Dear Families and Friends of Allegheny Cemetery, We are pleased to present the Allegheny Cemetery Historical Association's 2020 Heritage Newsletter! Within this year's newsletter, you will find stories featuring:... our historical preservation and restoration progress throughout the last year, the centennial anniversaries of baseball's Negro Leagues and the 19th Amendment, a touching tribute to the Marshall Family in Section 14, a dedicated remembrance honoring the 75th anniversary of WWII, a notable female industrialist from the early days of Pittsburgh's history, and a fond farewell to Roger Galbraith, who served Allegheny Cemetery for half a century. With the holiday season upon us, we are given cause to pause and reflect on our many reasons for gratitude throughout this year. Although these past few months have presented a myriad of challenges, we have been fortunate to flourish through the generosity of our friends, neighbors, and the dedicated efforts of several local philanthropic organizations. It is through the support of our friends like you that we were able to accomplish several critical repairs, efforts, and improvements throughout the last year. Our vast grounds require a constant dedication to our infrastructure, tree canopy, roadways, signage, and storm drainage systems. Additionally, we are honored to be entrusted with the care of tangible links to our past in the form of historic monuments and several outstanding examples of late-19th to mid-20th century architecture. It is vital now more than ever to consider The Allegheny Cemetery Historical Association in your gifting efforts. Donations are accepted by mail (check payable to "ACHA") sent to: Allegheny Cemetery, 4734 Butler Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15201. We also accept donations online via PayPal! All financial gifts will directly benefit the Allegheny Cemetery Historical Association, a registered 501 (c)3 non-profit corporation dedicated to the preservation and restoration of historic Allegheny Cemetery. Your contribution serves not only to protect our grounds for the thousands of visitors in our community, but has a lasting impact throughout generations. When you donate to the Allegheny Cemetery Historical Association, you enable us to continue these crucial preservation efforts, so that our heritage is preserved! With Warm Regards, Lisa M. Speranza Director of Development Allegheny Cemetery Historical Association

The peaceful grounds of Allegheny Cemetery have been enjoyed by generations of families for over 175 years. You now have the opportunity to bring the beauty and tranquility of our grounds into your own home. From now until December 31, 2020, any contribution of $50 or more to the Allegheny Cemetery Historical Association's (A.C.H.A.) Sylvan Fund will be eligible to select one of the two unframed 20x30 collage posters featured here. These prints showcase the intricate doors ...and striking stained glass windows of some of our most architecturally notable mausoleums. Many of these features are one-of-a-kind. Our prints make great gifts for yourself, a family member, or friend, and are perfect for anyone interested in the history of Pittsburgh. The Sylvan Fund is an endowment specifically set aside for historic preservation, conservation of the landscape, repairs and restoration of historic buildings, grounds, monuments and architectural structures as well as educational programming, archival preservation and public engagement initiatives. Contributions to the A.C.H.A. Sylvan Fund will be generously matched by an anonymous donor, doubling the impact your gift will have on these efforts. Donations may be submitted by check (payable to "A.C.H.A. Sylvan Fund") and mailing to Allegheny Cemetery, 4734 Butler Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15201.
