Our Gator family sticks together through brick and thin!

Allegheny College 14.01.2021

#GatorsLoveDonors "My name is Ariana Clark. I am from Freeport, PA, but most of the time I tell people I’m a little bit outside of Pittsburgh, since they don’t know where Freeport is. I am a sophomore here at Allegheny College. I decided to live on campus this semester, and I’m participating in classes, both online and in person. I am a member of the women’s swim and dive team here. I swim all the strokes, but I am better at butterfly and backstroke. I have not yet declar...ed what I will be majoring and minoring in, but I plan on majoring in environmental science and sustainability and minoring in economics. I would like to eventually study abroad, but I’m not quite sure where I want to go. There’s just too many places to choose from. "I wanted to say thank you for giving me a chance to pursue my education here at Allegheny College. I picked this college because of its teacher to student ratio. I’m not just a number. I am a person that has a name and all the professors here get to know me. This College is giving me a chance to open up doors I never thought I would be able to. With Allegheny College’s help, I feel like I am getting the best education I can possibly get around here, especially in the environmental department. People like you are the reason why students like me feel like we have a chance to pursue our dreams and goals." Sincerely, Ariana Clark '23

We are encouraged by President Biden's rejoining of the #ParisAgreement, reflective of his commitment to climate action. As a recipient of the 2016 Prize for Civility in Public Life, President Biden continues to set an example for unity, essential in combating climate change. http://americaisallin.com/ #Biden #inauguration

Allegheny's strong alumni network continues to support students with the transition out of college, providing advice, job opportunities, and new friendships. One of the salient features of Allegheny students is their overwhelming friendliness and willingness to help," says Professor Eric Pallant. "Not surprisingly, Allegheny alumni are just the same after graduation. Moreover, alumni remember what it was like to transition from college to a job." It’s been a year since Allegheny College established the Gateway Network, an initiative rooted within a model referred to as asset-based community development." To say the program has been a success is an understatement. In the fall 2020 semester, 66 students and 11 faculty members are involved in 14 community-based projects throughout Crawford County. The ongoing projects range from the Meadville YMCA Early Childhood Well-being Project to a Home Energy Audit Feasibility Study. Projects already completed include an Energy Utilization and Solar Energy Assessment at the Tamarack Wildlife Center and a Feasibility Study for a Community Museum of Science, Industry and Culture. With Halloween approaching, remember to keep these things in mind: maintain 6 feet physical distancing, wear a face covering (a costume mask is not a substitute for a cloth mask), and be respectful in your costume choice. From the Dean of Students: "Avoid social gatherings and please do not plan and attend parties even small ones. These types of events can quickly spread the virus and require that we close campus like other schools have done. With the resurgence of the viru...s locally and across the nation, it is important that we remain committed to the practices that have been working so well." From the Dean for Institutional Diversity: "It is important that we are mindful of cultural appropriation and how we can celebrate together while showing respect to the diversity of people who are a part of the Allegheny community. Cultural appropriation, in its most basic definition, is the adoption of some specific elements of one culture by a different cultural group. Using cultural elements out of context can feel very dismissive and reductionist to your fellow community members."

#GatorsLoveDonors "My name is Lauryn Davis, Class of 2022. I’m currently a junior at Allegheny with a major in psychology and a minor in English. I chose psychology because I am fascinated with decision making and mental health. For this reason, I plan on continuing with psychology in order to earn my Master’s degree and become a therapist. "I chose Allegheny College because of its small size, which allows for more intimate relationships with faculty and students. Moreover..., Allegheny has wonderful Psychology and Neuroscience Departments, as well as impressive research opportunities. My favorite part of Allegheny has to be the professors. I have yet to have a professor who I truly did not enjoy. Due to the small campus, professors are likely to be just as invested in your learning and success as you are. "Without your support, I would not be able to attend Allegheny and experience this enriching education. My parents are not able to aid in financing my education, so this scholarship means more to me than words can describe. Again, thank you so much for your donations and I hope this letter helps you see just how much they mean to myself and others like me on campus. Thank you!" Lauryn
