9/21/2020 - PSA: EAST SIDE RESIDENTS, please leave your recycling out. Waste Management was short of staff today due to unforeseen circumstances. Recycling will be picked up Monday night into Tuesday morning.

OFFICE and YARD WASTE SITE CLOSED FOR LABOR DAY Our office will be closed on Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day. In addition, the Yard Waste Site, located at 1401 Oxford Drive will also be closed. We will reopen our office Tuesday, September 8th at 8:00am and the Yard Waste Site will resume normal services Wednesday, September 9th at 8:00am.... *Curbside collection services will continue as normal.

WARNING: The city is seeing an increase in non-reputable persons offering to collect trash, furniture, and hard to dispose of items at low cost to the resident. However, these persons will often just illegally dump the items by the side of the road or down a hill, leaving the resident potentially responsible for the dumping. Most recently, some Green Street residents paid for disposal only to learn their debris was illegally placed in a nearby church's dumpster. The Bureau o...f Recycling & Solid Waste contracts for most of the trash, debris and waste disposed of by residents as well as the recycling of boxes, paper, cans, bottles and yard waste. Residents that have items that cannot be disposed of in the regular collection program, are urged to contact the bureau office for proper and legal disposal options, some of which have a cost associated with them. To protect yourself customers are urged to: -Check validity of hauling company (Better Business Bureau or reviews) -Write down description of vehicle used to haul your items -Write down the license plate of vehicle/trailer hauling trash -Write down the name or phone number of haulers. Customers can be held responsible if their trash is dumped illegally. Fines for illegal dumping range from $1,000 to $5,000 plus court costs.

Stray Pit Bull Update: As of this morning, our office confirmed that the at large Pit Bull is at the Humane Society. Our Animal Control Officer was able to make a visual confirmation this morning around 830am.

POST UPDATED WITH PICTURES: Stray tan Pit Bull with visible flesh wounds on its muzzle and old scars across entire body. Dog was last seen on the 1200 block of S. 7th Street. If this dog is spotted, please call 911.

Due to unforeseen increased tonnages due to the hurricane and Covid related shortages Waste Management was not able to service the following streets today for Trash and Yard Waste: Trash area to be recovered : W. Fairview st, Elm Court , South st, Moser, Ott, College dr, East Texas. ... Yard Waste : W. Fairview , Elm Court, South st, Moser, Ott, College dr, East Texas, Crest ave- North and South , Park Blvd, Between Springwood Dr to W Chew st, Allen st to Park side, banner to N 31st st, Dorset rd to Springhouse rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, Berks and Muhlenberg These areas will be first in collection on Saturday Morning.

As of 11:45am - THE ALLENTOWN DROP OFF CENTER IS OPEN

We are still in a holding pattern for the Allentown Drop off Center. We will remain closed until further notice.

The Allentown Recycling Drop Off Center is still CLOSED - Thursday, August 6. Please continue to check our FB page and website for updates.

UPDATE: The Allentown Drop Off Center, 1400 MLK Jr. Blvd, is closed today, August 5.
