On December 4, 1970, Redemptorist Brother Pancratius Boudreau led the first Catholic Charismatic Renewal prayer group at St. Boniface's Church. The charismatic... movement started at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh in 1967. Brother Pancratius brought the movement to Philadelphia, which soon had over 10,000 members by 1975. #catholichistory #archphilly #archives #fromthearchives #otd #halveyphotos

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the assassination of the four US Churchwomen in El Salvador. To learn more about their lives, their witness, and their role in awakening the church to work of justice, we recommend "A Radical Faith," Eileen Markey's biography of Sister Maura Clarke, as well as the most recent issue of U.S. Catholic Historian, which brings together six articles on the topic.
