#Onthisday, Chapman Biddle died in 1880. Chapman commanded the 1st Brigade, 3rd Division at the Battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War. He received a head wound on Seminary Ridge, received treatment on the battlefield, and immediately returned to fight with his men. An attorney, he later served as general counsel of the Pennsylvania Railroad. #andalusiapa #Biddlefamily #CivilWar #BattleofGettysburg #historicphiladelphia #visitphilly

On this National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, Andalusia joins with the nation to honor and remember the 2,403 service members and civilians who were killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. A further 1,178 people were injured in the attack, which permanently sank two U.S. Navy battleships (the USS Arizona and the USS Utah) and destroyed 188 aircraft. #NationalPearlHarborRemembranceDay

From December to March, there are for many of us three gardens - the garden outdoors, the garden of pots and bowls in the house, and the garden of the mind's eye. - Katherine S. White During the winter months, our horticulturists are busy designing new garden areas, researching flowers and shrubs, and looking into vendors for all of the new plantings they eagerly await to see take root in the gardens of their mind’s eye next spring and summer! Below are two such garden de...signs: Amelia Burnett’s design and installation of the Easter Garden and Jenna Bachman’s redesign and addition of perennials in Andalusia’s Rose Garden - both turned out in beautiful colors and textures this past season and delighted all of our visitors. We can’t wait to see what they are planning for the gardens in 2021! #andalusiagardens #gardendesign #gardeninspiration #visitphilly #visitbuckscounty #americasgardencapital

I heard a bird sing in the dark of December. A magical thing. And sweet to remember. We are nearer to Spring than we were in September. I heard a bird sing in the dark of December. - Oliver Herford The hardy leaves of the American Holly offer birds a great place for shelter and nesting and the bright red berries are a wonderful winter food source as well. You may find American Robins, Northern Cardinals, Eastern Bluebirds and Cedar Waxwings near these beautiful trees in the arboretum. #andalusiapa #AmericanHolly #arbnet #visitphilly #treesinwinter #northamericanbirds
