Not only do they cause pain to themselves but they also cause pain to those that love them. When we care for someone in addiction we try our hardest to help them. Sometimes what we really need to do is step back, care for ourselves, and pray for their safety. We cannot force anyone to change but we want to make sure that we are not con...tributing to their use by showing up to save them from consequences, giving them money, etc. You can still love someone and not enable their behaviors. It may be hard for them to see that in the moment but if they make it to recovery, one day they will understand.
