At Arden Courts of Wayne in New Jersey, their staff members donned their most creative costumes to celebrate Halloween with the residents. The residents loved the parade of staff members and the staff members loved seeing the residents smile and laugh! The community also held a pumpkin decorating contest in which people voted for their favorite decorated pumpkin. There was not a dull pumpkin in the bunch! #HereForYou

It’s fall in New England. Brilliant foliage lights up the landscape, the air is crisp, and the pandemic is ever present across the US. The need for comfort abounds. Nancy Gierwielaniec, Senior Food Services Coordinator for Arden Courts and Chef at Arden Courts of Avon in Connecticut, shared her expertise in a down to earth manner during an interactive virtual program delivered to members of the Bristol Senior Center entitled From the Pantry: Helpful Tips, Nourishing and De...licious Recipes. Nancy opened the discussion by reflecting upon last March when sentiments of uncertainty and fear were commonplace and though much has changed in the last seven months, In times like these we think about comfort foods, Nancy suggested. Comfort foods have nostalgic value and are often categorized by simple and quick preparation. It’s important that we nourish ourselves; not only our stomachs but also our minds and hearts. Nancy demonstrated having a well-stocked pantry is the ideal recipe for making wonderful meals out of a few staples. A store bought rotisserie chicken can yield three very different meals: left overs re-invented. Participants shared their favorite comfort food ideas and offered topics for future virtual discussions such as gluten and dairy-free recipes and anti-inflammatory foods. #HereForYou

Liz Heller from Arden Courts of Chagrin Falls in Ohio will be celebrating 19 years as their Program Services Coordinator. She will also be turning 70 next week so Arden Courts decided to show their appreciation for Liz by celebrating her birthday with the staff and residents! How do you safely play BINGO with a room full of people during a pandemic? At Arden Courts of Avon in Connecticut, Program Services Coordinator, Marcy Blondin, took her show on a virtual road and entertained members of the Simsbury Senior Center. The center has hosted a number of programs but had not yet conducted a virtual BINGO game. Arden Courts jumped to the opportunity to help by sponsoring the center’s very first virtual BINGO event. Kathleen Marschall, Coordinator for the Simsbury Senior Center, received several phone calls of praise after the game concluded. They received so many calls that the senior center would like an instant replay! #HereForYou

The residents at @Arden Courts of North Hills outside of Pittsburgh spent the day celebrating Pittsburgh’s renown Polish culture celebrating a Heart’s Desire Wish from one of their residents, Mae. Mae said, I love to dance. I’ve danced for years. It’s nice to know I’m not too old to keep doing what I love. So, Arden Courts of North Hills granted Mae’s wish and organized a Polka party complete with polka music and dancing, followed by a feast including pierogi, sauerkraut,... kielbasa, and haluski. Mae was the belle of the polka ball! By the end of the event, the residents had danced their hearts out and sat around the dining room tables, laughing and talking about the events of the party with full and satisfied bellies. ‘During this time, with everything that has been going on, it’s programs like these that offer a way for our residents to really enjoy the things they love to do, you know? Just enjoying the simple things in life. These celebrations and their enthusiasm and smiles are the best part of our jobs as staff,’ said Erin Barefoot, the Program Services Coordinator at Arden Courts. #HereForYou
