Memorial Day (originally known as Decoration Day) became an official federal holiday in 1971. Since its inception, this profoundly meaningful holiday allows us ...to reflect on all the brave men and women that lost their lives while serving in the U.S. military. Under normal circumstances, the United Air Force Strings proudly performs sold-out Memorial Day concerts at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts for the public in Washington D.C., however due to our current situation are unable to do so. Instead, we hope you enjoy this performance of a favorite tune in our repertoire, "Ashokan Farewell" by Jay Ungar, a beautiful waltz familiar to both string players and fans of the Ken Burns's PBS series "The Civil War." We offer this performance as a musical salute to our fallen heroes that gave the ultimate sacrifice while protecting and guaranteering our freedom. Video credits: Col. Don Schofield - Executive Producer Senior Master Sgt. Frank Busso - Producer Master Sgt. Emily Wellington - Audio/Video Editor "Ashokan Farewell" - Jay Ungar arranged by Chief Master Sgt. (ret.) Sunday's Bach Marathon is canceled

Arts at St. John's 10.07.2020

A Lehigh Valley tradition for more than 20 years, the annual Bach Marathon features organists and other instrumentalists playing the music of Bach and of composers who influenced or were influenced by him. This year's performers include Thomas Busteed, Luke DiGiacinto, Lou Carol Fix, Bryan Holten, Michael Krentz, the Lehigh Valley Horn Ensemble, Erin Petrella, and Stephen Williams. Each will present a program of approximately 30 min, and the programs continue as long as there are performers! The host is Eric Gombert of St. John's Lutheran Church in Allentown, and refreshments will be available. Please come and help celebrate the anniversary of this remarkable figure in the history of music.
