Thank you to everyone who has checked in to see what you can do to help support the Philadelphia Hope Lodge during this transitional time. We’ve cooked up a new fundraising initiative, our virtual dinner group program! This program was designed for groups who traditionally support the Lodge by making dinner for our guests, and are looking for a way to support from home. We hope to see you in person, back in our kitchen soon, but for now, please join our team!
***BREAKING NEWS*** Our match just went from $50,000 to $100,000! Thanks to our generous partners, gifts made on #GivingTuesdayNow are matched up to $100,000. Help us keep fighting against cancer. #GivingTuesday cancer.org/givingtuesdaynow
For the first time in history, our mission to save lives and reduce cancer mortality rates is at risk from COVID-19. Donate to American Cancer Society on #GivingTuesdayNow to help keep critical services going for cancer patients and their families: www.cancer.org/givingtuesdaynow. #GivingTuesday
To the friendly faces at our front desk and our van drivers, to the groups who make dinner for our guests, to those who collect supplies and adopt rooms, to all of our supporters- thank you! The Lodge wouldn't be the tremendous place that it is without each and every one of you. We can't wait to see you soon! #NationalVolunteerWeek
This morning, we at Hope Lodge, were informed that we lost an incredible man to the battle against cancer. His name was Winston Robinson and he had a truly electrifying spirit. Everyone who had the pleasure of interacting with Winston walked away with a warm feeling and a positive attitude. Winston stayed with us at the Lodge for almost 2 years and everyone came to know him. Whether they were fellow guests, staff, volunteers, or donors, Winston‘s glowing smile embodied the Hope here at Hope Lodge. We are sending our condolences and prayers out to his wife Jasmine and their children. Winston was one of kind and will continue to impact the lives of all those he met.
Making the decision to close our Hope Lodge facilities to cancer patients in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic was extremely difficult. But our beds won’t stay empty. We’re offering more than 1,100 rooms nearby large health care systems to health care providers to rest between shifts or overnight, free of charge. Coronavirus is going to have many making very difficult decisions. For us this has been one of the most difficult: closing our Hope Lodge for now. We simply can’t ignore the risks from this virus. And from our hearts, neither should you. https://twitter.com/ACSNews/status/1242093388863647745
Happy Friday from the Philadelphia Hope Lodge staff! We shutdown most of the public spaces in the Lodge in order to thoroughly sanitize everything to ensure the safety of our guests. We’re still working hard to keep this a safe environment and having fun while doing it. Everyone stay safe out there but don’t forget to laugh a little too!
Greetings from the Philadelphia Hope Lodge! First and foremost, we want to thank all our patients, caregivers, and volunteers for their tremendous support of the Lodge during this stressful time. We have received numerous emails and phone calls from all of you reaching out with questions on how you can continue to help during this health crisis. Our number one concern here at the Hope Lodge is the safety of our guests so in order to best protect them, we have had to limit the... volume of people allowed in and out of the building. So how can you continue to support us? Our Amazon Wishlist is the most viable means of donating items for our guests and staff to use. All the items listed there are needed in the lodge but if you want an inside track at what may be most needed, please feel free to call our front desk at 267-622-6000. (As of right now, we could really use bleach!) The link to our wish list is: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/26A7JSQ2CL1YW Hope Lodge - Philadelphia is still accepting dinner donations if the donor partners with a restaurant, or professional caterer, only. The food can be delivered to the door, but no one can enter Hope Lodge. Staff will bring donated food into the building. Those donors who are interested should contact the front desk at 267-622-6000. We are still accepting monetary donations as well. Hope Lodge staff are handling all mail with gloves, so if the donations are checks or cash, they are protected. This is a very uncertain time in the world, but we are maintaining our commitment to embodying the HOPE in Hope Lodge. All your support only helps us to do this. Thank you all for everything that you do, and we look forward to seeing you all again on the other side of this speed bump on the road to eliminating cancer!
Congratulations to this incredible couple for knocking out cancer this past week. After a long 28 days at the Lodge, they finally got to head back home! We wish you the absolute best and hope you only ever come back for a visit!
Hello Everyone! As you all may know, we here at Hope Lodge had to enforce new policies in order to ensure the safety of our patients in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. We have received messages and phone calls from so many phenonmenal supporters of the Lodge asking how they can help. We wanted you all to know that we are still currently able to receive donations via mail and deliveries. If you would like to help us at this time please review our Amazon wishlist listed below. Thank you for your tremendous support during this time and please stay safe and informed! https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/26A7JSQ2CL1YW?
Time for some Spontaneous Appreciation! Today we would like to highlight the phenomenal Ruth! Ruth has been volunteering here at the Lodge for about a year, providing support on Tuesdays in the late afternoons. What draws Ruth to volunteer at the Lodge is the fact that she can help ease some of the burden off of the guests facing such large obstacles. Ruth is an educational sign language interpreter who works alongside one deaf child at a charter school in northeast Philadelphia. Ruth is also a huge fan of Halloween, both the holiday and the movie, having met most of the original cast. Ruth’s lighthearted nature and warm disposition are just a fraction of the reasons she is so valued here at the Lodge. Thank you for everything you do!
Meet the newest kid on the block, the Lovely Liz! Liz covers our phones and front desk on Mondays! Liz was drawn to the Hope Lodge due to being a conqueror of breast cancer for 21 years now. As a former school counselor, Liz provides that compassionate ear to guests both on and off the phone. Liz is living proof of life after cancer with her fearless attitude carrying over to her hobby of dragon boat racing. Yes, DRAGON BOAT RACING! If you’re ever in the Lodge, please feel free to stop by and hear Liz’s story! Thank you for everything you do to support us! Happy Spontaneous Appreciation!
