150 Years, 150 Objects- Masonic Temple Design entry In the 1920s, a design competition was held to create a new Masonic Temple for Scranton Freemasons. The Scra...nton firm of Edward Davis and George M.D. Lewis submitted a multistory design, shown here. Although New York architect Raymond Hood won the competition, Davis & Lewis continued to build locally, including the Waverly Community House, Bank Towers, and Weston Field House. Hood's Masonic Temple (today the Scranton Cultural Center) is a spectacular local landmark, but it's always interesting to see what might have been! See more
