Congratulations to A.W. Beattie’s new NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! A.W. Beattie’s four-person Carpentry and Building Construction team earned the national championship in the National Association of Home Builders' Residential Construction Management competition. The team was made up of four juniors: Northgate’s Ryan Geeting, Pine-Richland’s Graydon Sherron and North Allegheny’s Shane O’Neal and Marc Sostmann. They are the first A.W. Beattie team to take home first place nationally in ...the competition after the Career Center’s previous three teams placed fourth in 2017, 2018 and 2019. It was definitely a difficult process after we began in the fall, shut down in-person for a while and met virtually to do a lot for the competition, Mr. Brown said. I know there were some teams that signed up and didn’t finish, and we were all in the same boat. These kids pulled together, and it seemed to come together nicely for us at the last minute. Each team began with a blueprint provided to them, and students had to be the construction managers for a hypothetical residential project. Ryan and Graydon took the lead organizing permits and material orders, and Shane and Marc took on the responsibility of managing labor and construction scheduling. The whole competition covered every detail from the cost of a Porta John, its location and how long it would be used to handing the keys over to homebuyers, Mr. Brown said. It’s a lot to undertake in times like these. Each student has different plans for the future. Ryan wants to enlist in the Air Force to work in Aircraft Maintenance. Graydon wants to attend Pennsylvania Technical College for Construction Management. Shane wants to attend Indiana University for Construction Management and Mark wants to attend Pitt for Business. I think it’s come to the point where students know that being here in this program doesn’t mean you are going to swing a hammer for the rest of your life, Mr. Brown said. There are so many things you can become like an architect or construction manager, and this program can be your starting point. Earlier this year, Graydon came to me about Pennsylvania Technical College for construction management and then Shane, too. We got the ball rolling from there, and we’re proud that we won.

"My first week in Veterinary Sciences was awesome! Everyone is my friend and we had some playtime every day. I watched them learn a bunch of stuff that I’m already an expert at because I'm a dog." Yours truly, Haku

Congratulations to Hampton’s Abigail Boyd who was named December Student of the Month in our Early Childhood Education program. Her dad Jason Boyd, an HVAC program advisor, also attended Beattie. Abigail kicked virtual’s butt and has a perfect score in the class. In this picture, she has on Elf garb for a project she and classmates did for our Kiddie Tech pre-schoolers. This is a snippet of her reflection on the project:... The objective was for the children to go around helping different holiday-themed characters and participating in their game in order to collect candles to light the way for Santa’s sleigh. Our main goal with this presentation was to allow the children to view the holiday season through a multicultural lens. We wanted the children to know that although our lives have been drastically altered by COVID-19, we can still have fun, while being safe. This has been a hard time for all, but especially for children, who are not able to understand the COVID-19 situation fully. It was nice to bring back some sort of familiarity and happiness during this exciting season.

Students involved with Beattie Ambassadors, NTHS and BAT Voice decided to adopt the residents of Grace Manor. North Allegheny School District seniors Dom Gralia and Alexis Robinson, of Ad Design, were finishing up "Boo Bags" of goodies and a puzzle book to be given to the residents next door. Unfortunately, we can't visit this year, so we are trying to send little gifts every month!
