There was a question posted the Annie (Mosey) Oakley's family operated a hotel in the canal are that burnt in 1855. They then moved to Ohio. Research found Jacob Mosey family in 1850 in Sugerloaf Twp. Luzerne Co. PA as an innkeeper & 1860 in Darke Co. Ohio in 1860 he being a farmer. Below is the reply from the Darke Co. Historical Society. So a local story dies? I have requested copies to file at BCGS .... Mr. Snyder From research our staff has done they arrived in Darke County some time between 1852 and 1855 as daughter Lydia was born in 1852 in PA and daughter Elizabeth was born in 1855 in Darke Co. There is no record that Jacob ever owned land in Darke County. On the 1860, 1870, 1880, and 1900 census it is recorded that Susan could not read or write. On the voucher for her inheritance from her grandfather, John Wise, dated 12 May 1855, Susan and Jacob both signed with an X. On the receipts for the distribution of Susan's share of her grandfather's estate, the names written by the X were Jacob Mosey and Susan Mosey on one and on the second receipt the name was written as Susan Mozee. This estate record is evidence to the fact that Jacob and Susan were in Darke County by May 1855. I hope this is of help to you. This is the pedigree chart my daughter Missy and I did for the Hollidaysburg High school "Family Tree Climbers Club" in 1983. A group connected with the Blair County Genealogical Society. This has expanded to currently over 26,000 names. All the other original charts are at the BCGS library. The school group also complied the Carson Valley Cemetery publication!

The next time you visit the Library, make sure to look at the Courthouse Faces (Blair County Match Game) display! The Blair Co. Courthouse has approx. 50 carve...d stone faces on either side of the first and second floor windows. The July 1877 story of the courthouse dedication explains that these faces are of notable Blair Co. residents and notable Americans, but a list of names has never been found. Jim Snyder Jr. of the Blair County Genealogical Society is seen here with the displays showing photos of the faces and information about what has been discovered so far. Earlier this year, Jim and Elaine Conrad gave an excellent talk on the topic and we recorded it at the Library. On Friday Oct. 23 these 6 members of the Blair County Chamber of Commerce part of History, Heritage & Cultural Session. A discussion at the society library about family trees on walls. This one was mine before we moved 8 ft. X 14 ft. in our breezeway wall (7 generations). Anyone else have one in there home???
