The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall nam...e Him Jesus. "He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end." If you've got something real, the presence of Christ in you should be bringing the presence of Christ into your home. You walk in; He should walk in. Maybe you'...re a winner on the road. You're a hero to people at church, in the community, that ministry you're involved in. You're a hero at work. Maybe you're a hero in the Christian world. But spiritually are you a hero to your family? They should get your spiritual best, not your leftovers. Maybe it's time to take a step back and commit yourself to first of all represent Christ, to be His ambassador in your family. Be like Jesus in your family. Whatever others get, you know what it's going to be? It's going to be the overflow of what you are living in front of your family. Jesus started at home. So should you.

25 Days of God Given Gifts Day 9 ~ PEACE "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be tr...oubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14:27 December of 1861, was not a time of peace on earth in the United States. A Civil War was being fought between the North and the South, killing and wounding thousands of men. It was during this time, a man named Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, a Portland Maine native, buried his wife. Henry’s wife Fanny had been accidentally burned to death while heating sealing wax. Henry had also suffered severe burns while trying to save her. Two years later, one of his sons who had gone off to fight in that Civil War was badly wounded. During this low point in Henry’s life he wrote the poem, "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day". Here are a few verses from that poem. I heard the bells on Christmas day Their old familiar carols play, And wild and sweet the words repeat Of peace on earth, good will to men. And in despair I bowed my head There is no peace on earth, I said, For hate is strong and mocks the song Of peace on earth, good will to men. Then pealed the bells more loud and deep: God is not dead, nor doth He sleep; The wrong shall fail, the right prevail With peace on earth, good will to men. This timeless poem/song written by Mr. Longfellow over 150 years ago is applicable still today and reminds us there is PEACE, even in times of despair. God is not dead nor doth he sleep.

"How Long Has it Been" was written in 1956 by Mosie Lister. He was thinking about how so many grown people today prayed to God as a child but have stopped praying since they are grown. He usually struggled with great effort to write songs but this time the song came to him faster than he could write and he completed it in about 10 minutes. The song not only teaches us how to pray fervently but also describes the incredible rewards diligent prayers will bring.

"Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a branch from his roots will bear fruit." - Isaiah 11:1 Israel was divided and conquered with Roman soldie...rs. Isaiah wrote while the Oak was cut down, it had roots that would bring the embodiment of the Lord's Spirit. During Advent we ask the Lord to help us see future possibilities in spite of the things right now.

Me: Okay, God, here's the thing. I'm scared. I'm trying not to be, but I am. God: I know. Want to talk about it? Me: Do we need to? I mean, you already know.... God: Let's talk about it anyway... We've done this before. Me: I know, I just feel like I should be bigger or stronger or something by now. God: *waiting patiently, unhurried, undistracted, never annoyed. Me: Okay. So, I'm afraid I'll do everything I can to protect my family and it won't be enough. I'm afraid of someone I love dying. I'm afraid the world won't go back to what it was before. I'm afraid my life is always going to feel this unsettled. God: Anything else? Me: EVERYTHING ELSE. God: Remember how your daughter woke up the other night and came running down the hall to your bedroom? Me: Yes. God: You were still awake, so when you heard her running, you started calling out to her before she even got to you... remember? Do you remember what you called out to her? Me: I said, "You're okay! You're okay! You're okay! I'm here." God: Why did you call out to her? Why didn't you just wait for her to get to your room? Me: Because I wanted her to know that I was awake, and I heard her, and she didn't have to be afraid until she reached the end of the dark hallway. God: Exactly. I hear you, my child. I hear your thoughts racing like feet down the dark hallway. There's another side to all of this. I'm there already. I've seen the end of it. And I want you to know right here as you walk through it all, you're okay. I haven't gone to sleep, and I won't. Me: *crying. Can we sit together awhile? Can we just sit here a minute before I go back to facing it all? God: There's nothing I'd love more. by: Becky Thompson

A lot of people are running aimlessly because they’re not getting guidance from God; they’re getting direction from the clamoring voices of this world. The pro...blem is we don’t belong to the world. We belong to Jesus and we need to hear what HE is saying to us through His Word. - Pastor Jim Cymbala #BrooklynTabernacle
