Rocky and I are doing amazing! He’s fully comfortable in my home, loves cuddling, and gets so excited to go for walks that he spins. This picture we took for my Christmas cards this year. Charlie is peeking around the Kitty Corner today to let you know why you should consider one of the more shy and reserved cats when choosing to add to your family. Some cats, like Charlie, will require a person with a little patience and understanding. But the reward is worth the wait. Charlie, for example, loves affection and will even give kisses but he has to feel secure with his person first. That is often the case with shy cats. Many times, it's not that they don't want ...to be petted or played with it is simply that they need to be given time to adjust to new situations and people. It's often harder for shy cats to get adopted because the more outgoing cats will grab all the attention of potential adopters. When you visit adoption centers and shelters, ask about the ones hiding in the corner or sitting just out of reach. The adoption councilors or volunteers can often tell you a lot about them and whether they might be a good fit for you. See more

Hi everyone, Austin here with this week's Kitty Corner. I am going to give you some interesting facts about life at the Cat Center and break down the numbers to let you know just how many cats like me that you have helped BYC save in 2020. First let's talk about the Cat Center, it's a super cool place. I was a bit nervous when I first got here, it can be a bit overwhelming for cats like me who are a little bit shy. But I like making friends and now I have a lot of them, both ...cat and human. I live in the kitten room even though I am really big, because I am only 9 months old. All of us that are under a year old live in here and sometimes there are A LOT of us. There are 4 other rooms here too. Hopefully I get adopted before I have to move to the main adult room. That is where the grown up kitties live. We can sometimes spy on them through the glass door in our room. There is also a special room for cats that like the quiet and don't want to be around too many people all at once. And then there are the special needs rooms, one for cats with FIV and one for cats with FeLV. It's pretty cool here, we have lots of fun toys and great volunteers who make sure we have plenty to eat and that are rooms stay nice and clean and not smelly. 2020 was a big year for helping cats like me to not have to live on the streets. 333 cats came in to our care since last January, that's a lot of cats. Almost 300 cats were adopted in 2020, 217 kittens and 81 adult cats. That's pretty awesome. There were some sad days though, 24 cats and kittens crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 2020. The people here say that is the hardest part of rescue. There are currently around 110 cats and kittens in care here, some are living here at the Cat Center and some are in either temporary or long term foster care. And of course there are always more to be rescued. Thanks for all your support in 2020 and we hope that you will continue that support in 2021 whether you are donating, fostering, volunteering, or sharing our posts.
