How often do you feel like you need to REST and just slow downeven if for only a few minutes? Probably several times a day! Luckily for you, Brandi is here with a simple pose you can do anywhere (even in your office) when you need to center yourself. Legs Up the Wall (Viparita Karani) is a deeply restorative pose. It is accessible for everyone, no matter their level of practice. When you rest here, you facilitate several of your body’s natural processes: Blood flow regu...lation - inverting your legs brings blood flow back toward your heart Improves digestion - simply put, your body isn’t fighting gravity as food moves through your system Relieves tired feet and legs - take a load off! Stretches neck, front body, and hamstrings - even if your legs aren’t completely straight, you’ll still open the back of your legs and neck Neutralizes spine - we put a lot of pressure on our lumbar spine. Allowing it to melt into your mat counteracts the stress we put on the area. Steadied breath - closing your eyes and tuning into your breath will keep you present. Deep, diaphragmatic breaths that fill up your stomach (instead of lifting your chest) is cleansing for the entire body and activated our parasympathetic nervous system, which controls our rest and relax response.
