". . . employee interviews revealed DiMonte failed to notify the insurance companies and specialty pharmacies when patients stopped coming to his practice to receive their scheduled monthly shot of Vivitrol, according to the D.A.'s office. DiMonte allegedly continued to fraudulently receive the Vivitrol that had been paid for by the insurance companies, and administered them to uninsured patients, charging them cash. Often, DiMonte administered Vivitrol to patients on their first visit to his office, using the excess Vivitrol that he had stockpiled, the D.A.'s statement said."

"Among individuals in recovery with a smoking history, the study reported that 30 percent had quit smoking prior to entering recovery, 7 percent quit and entered recovery within the same year, and 26 percent quit after entering recovery. The 27 percent who were still smoking had tried unsuccessfully to quit an average of five times and were smoking an average of 14 cigarettes per day. Education and income seemed to play a role in successful quitting. Individuals who earned $50,000 or more and those who had a bachelor's degree or higher quit sooner after entering recovery than others." #addiction #recovery #mentalhealth #BucksCounty #Philadelphia #nicotine #cigarettes #health #healthcare #wellness #psychology #smokingcessation #parents #education #nicotine #tobacco

"While much national attention has focused on over-prescribing of opioids, physicians have also greatly increased prescribing of stimulant drugs, primarily for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). These drugs include methylphenidate, amphetamine, and lisdexamfetamine. This increase in prescribing coincides with high levels of use of illicit stimulants, include cocaine and methamphetamine (while most methamphetamine use is illicit, this drug is occasionally prescribed legally)." #medication #healthcare #medicine #psychology #mentalhealth #doctors #psychiatry #anxiety #overdose #parents #drugs #stimulants #cocaine #methamphetamine #BucksCounty #Philadelphia #DelawareValley

"If you or a friend or family member have an addiction, you should know the many values of participating in scientific research. Clinical trial participants have access to top specialists in treating their disorder, and access to high-quality medical facilities. They sometimes receive cutting-edge treatments before they are more widely available. Study participants are also given compensation for their time and inconvenience; frequently they are also reimbursed for transportation and other expenses." #science #healthcare #research #BucksCounty #opioids #heroin #health #psychology #alcohol #alcoholism #parents #education #therapy #medicine #doctors

"Varying degrees exist, from mild to severe, depending on the number of symptoms a person experiences. But a powerful craving for alcohol, despite its consequences, is common across that spectrum." #alcoholism #alcohol #addiction #recovery #mentalhealth #BucksCounty #health #healthcare #depression #anxiety #healthcare #psychology #parents #education #statistics

"In 2017, most people used telehealth for injuries like bruises and open wounds, acute respiratory infections and digestive problems. Neither injury or digestive system issues were among the top uses in 2016. Mental health, which topped the telehealth utilization list in 2016, was fifth in 2017 at 7% of claims, compared with 13% for the aforementioned uses." #mentalhealth #addiction #healthcare #telehealth #telemedicine #depression #anxiety #recovery #psychology #BucksCounty #health

"The researchers found that higher levels of alcohol, cigarette, and marijuana use before age 19 correlated with smaller gray matter volume in two brain areas (see Figure). The amygdala was smaller in youths who had reported higher use of the substances at ages 12 to 15." #addiction #healthcare #psychology #science #marijuana #alcohol #nicotine #cigarettes #parents #teens #school #BucksCounty #mentalhealth #depression #anxiety #drugs

From the author of the article: "Reduction in illicit opiate use? Check. Decreased craving? Check. Improved social function and improved quality of life? Check, check. "Researchers identified 1,435 mental health apps available to users in app stores such as Google Play and iTunes. Then, they analyzed the claims on 73 of those mental health apps related to depression, self-harm, substance use, anxiety and schizophrenia. Of those 73 apps, 64 percent claimed effectiveness at diagnosing a mental health condition or improving symptoms or self-management. In 44 percent of cases, scientific language was most frequently used to support claims. To make matters worse, 14 percent of the apps described a design or development involving real-world experience, and none of the apps referenced any sort of certification or accreditation processes." #mentalhealth #psychology #addiction #recovery #depression #trauma #anxiety #mentalillness #science #research #BucksCounty #healthcare #health
