VERY VERY IMPORTANT Dear clients and friends of Houston Cattle and Saddle, After great, lengthy and heartfelt consideration, I must inform you that I will no longer be working as a large animal Veterinarian or own a working Veterinary practice. I have had the opportunity and pleasure of providing care to animals in Washington, Greene, Beaver and Allegheny counties. I began my own practice nearly 15 years ago as a solo ambulatory practitioner with merely some supplies and a...Continue reading

Friends- here is following intel- the modified Washington county fair/ market livestock event is coming up. You will need a certificate of Veterinary inspection(AKA health paper) within 60 days of the entrance date for the following: market steers, market lambs and market goats. So anytime currently or until you enter. HOWEVER the health paper/certificate of veterinary inspection for market hogs can only get done within 14 days of entrance into the grounds(aug 20) thus the...y can only be done on the 6th of August or later. This creates a dilemma as usually I line several families up in a given area on a given day so there is less wear and tear on my truck and I can charge these families less. Also there is no west Alexander fair so there will be fewer animals and less regulars altogether. So here’s what I’ve decided to do- Anybody who has livestock for this event without having hogs- let’s get your paper done as soon as possible now. Anybody who has hogs- we will have to do in the last two weeks I will post the areas I’m scheduled to be in on here for a given day. You reply back with where you are number of animal and types of animals and your phone # and I will call and make sure I don’t miss you Monday the 13th of July-Prosperity, Brownsville, Scenery Hill, Eighty-four, East Washington Tuesday the 14th of July- Hookstown, Paris, Frankfort springs, Bavington, Burgettstown, McDonald, Hickory Wednesday the 15th of July West Alexander, west Finley, Claysville, Taylorstown, west Washington

Folks- here is a posting from my good friend and college roommate from Penn State- he and I have been in discussions since my prior posting on this page regarding finding neighbors, friends, churchgoers etc... to market project animals to- inspired him to find solutionswe all must support each other-- Let’s show the world the resiliency and tenacity of the livestock community- We always find a way and more people in the world need to be like us!!! Let's get after some thing...s. I decided to put some skills to use regarding Junior Livestock Projects that may or may not have a sale this year. This wishy washy world drives me bonkers. Sometimes you have to figure it out as you go and find creative solutions. To that end, I now have a website and FB page for the sole purpose of matching Junior Livestock Exhibitors with Carnivorous Consumers and Reputable Butchers. Snagged some pictures off my phone, put in my info, sent some funds, and www.hoofandsnoutmeat.com was created. The goal is to provide a weekly email with project animals, interested buyers, and available butchers to help some folks out. I'll see what happens, subscribe to the email list at the website. Remember, if you don't sell them, you have to smell them. See more

4 years ago today as I was trying to relieve a horse’s long term pain with a much needed joint injection. This happened- horse was very very well sedated. Feet were planted. Precautions in place. In a split second life can change. It did for me that day. However I knew if my career ended that day I would be ok with it- as I give everything of myself everyday to help others. However, the response I got in return from you my clients- was an outpouring of support and care li...ke none other. I always remember what a colleague said to me once-it doesn’t cost anything to be nice to someone you all lifted me up during that time with your kindness and I will never forget it. I’m still at it to this day. We can overcome a lot if we support each other. Stay safe and thank you all. Point of reference in top radiograph toes should be pointing at you and in bottom they should be pointing up(all 6 ligaments and tendons torn) See more
