Just some real world repair work today on this Ammonia coil in a vacuum cooler. There was a crack on the backside of one of the 5/8 tubes....time for the mirror on this one! These can be tricky, especially because the tubes are paper thin, plus there is residual oil left inside even after the system is pumped down. Playing the game of clean, clean, clean, weld, clean, weld, clean, etc. It can be quite the process to repair these....especially in such a restricted spot, and only being able to see with a mirror. But if you stick to what you know, follow your own process that’s proven to work, the results are typically positive. Headed down to the Fort Belvoir Army base in Virginia early this morning for an emergency repair on this boiler condensate tank. It’s not always about the show piece welds, it’s about getting systems and customers facilities up and running again. As you can see this tank sprung a leak, more than likely from internal corrosion. Work your way out from leak until you find solid metal, and make your patch accordingly. This tank will be replaced, so the repair is just to keep them up and running for the time being. 4 hours down, and four hours back, and 20 mins worth of prep and welding.
