Happy 8th birthday Bottle Tree Creative Arts House!! My thoughts are far and wide about how deeply proud and supported I feel about celebrating eight years as a small business owner - especially one in the business of the creative arts. You have probably seen me talk about the thousands of people of literally all ages I’ve taught music and art to in these last 2,290 days. I’ve taught Kindermusik to newborns. I’ve taught painting to nonagenarians. I lovingly call all my stude...nts my piano kiddos and I’ve had hundreds of them in these last 4,204,800 minutes. The best part of living in a small town is running into the growing up versions of my piano kiddos all over the place. I love seeing their names in the newspapers for sports, musicals, band, you name it. I know I usually get 2-4 years with my kiddos before piano lessons fizzle out of their lives. What I hope never fizzles is how they remembered me, remembered piano lessons. I try to make every lesson fun, engaging, and full of learning. If you’ve been to any of our piano recitals, you have probably heard me speak about Mrs. Luchsinger, my piano teacher. She sucked every drop of fun out of piano. I was only allowed to play pieces in all four eras of piano music - baroque, classical, romantic and 20th century. Luckily for me, I did love that. I vividly remember asking to learn The Luckiest by Ben Folds and My Heart Will Go On, and Mrs. Luchsinger flat out refused and said I could learn them on my own terms (which I did) and she wouldn’t waste lesson times on that. Lessons were a very miserable 45 minutes if she didn’t deem that I practiced long and hard enough. Recitals and competitions were terrifying to me. But, in a way of doing everything she did, but the opposite, she taught me how to be a damn good piano teacher, as well as a damn good pianist. I’ve lost contact with her, but I can still see her living room where we had lessons plain as day. I can see her handwriting all over my music in my head right now. She will always have a lasting impression on me. I feel especially thankful for posting about my eight years in business now. Small businesses are struggling hard. So many will close. I am fortunate enough to be able to teach virtually sitting at my piano in our living room, but it’s not the same. Our recital was canceled this year. I can’t wait to be back at Bottle Tree doing what I love very most in the world. Today at 4:30, in an effort of socially distanced celebration, we are doing a Bottle Tree’s 8th Birthday Parade around Thornton Hall. I would love to see all of my kiddos, their families and anyone else who has supported my little dream for the last 252,288,000 seconds.

I’m having a parade!!! Bottle Tree Creative Arts House turns eight on Monday! My heart and soul. I could cry about how proud I am of Bottle Tree. I’ve taught thousands of people of all ages music and art. My kiddos become my family. And what better way to keep on spreading joy and creating beauty in unexpected places than a birthday parade!... I have some fun plans up my socially distanced sleeves, including FUNFETTI cupcakes, bubbles, and bracelets stations for you or your kiddos to pop out of the car and get for some fun at home! I love all of you so very much

Bottle Tree will be physically closed for all lessons and classes in tandem with Governor Wolf’s closures of all K-12 Pennsylvania schools for the following two weeks. We will re-evaluate and assess as more information comes to light. We are aware of the importance of heightened health and safety measures in regard to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. We will be holding virtual Skype lessons available for all piano students during the time of the physical closure. Times can be changed from the regular lesson time. We are doing everything possible to reassure during this turbulent time and we are happy to answer any questions you may have!
