St. Patrick's Day fun!
We were cool as a cucumber today! Our healthy snack was provided by Bause Catered Events Inc in Pottstown with the help of a grant from the Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation.
Think spring with Wendys Flowers and Garden Centers and our flower fundraiser. We are selling 6 inch potted daffodils, hyacinth, and tulips for $9.00. Orders are due tomorrow and pick up is 3/24/21. You may also purchase a voucher coupon for $9. Voucher is redeemable at either store location until 4/4/21.
Creating a scarecrow is a tradition of the Pennsylvania Dutch at the beginning of the planting season in Spring. The idea is to take old plant material or foliage from your yards and use them to create a figure in the form of a boy (Butzemann) or girl (Butzfraa).
On Read Across America Day primary students heard the story Bartholomew and the Oobleck. Students made oobleck using cornstarch, water, and green food coloring. This was a great STEAM activity reviewing the concepts of liquids and solids.
Wishing you a happy Thanksgiving day!
The Primary Full Day class conducted a scientific experiment to determine which liquid was most effective at dissolving sugar and gelatin pumpkins!
Students in Mrs. Phelan's Primary Full Day class constructed spider webs. They tested the stability and strength of their webs by dropping a spider onto it from measured heights!
Cart Before the Horse STEM Project! Students took the parts of the Egyptian chariot to the next level. After diagramming and labeling a chariot and its parts, students designed and built their own chariots. Mixed media designs included 3-D paper art with cutting and hardware added, LEGO, KNEX, string, tape, glue and various other items. Kudos to the Upper Elementary team of origami craftspeople for horses! (Also pictured is a photo of the "mummified apples" being completed.)
After reading literature about historic bridges, students in the Elementary class designed and built suspension bridges, floating docks, and rope bridges for our STEM challenge of the week!
