Around 245am BFC volunteers were alerted to a house fire in the 2400blk of N. Greenhill Road, Marple Twp. Deputy 53 arrived to find a working chimney fire extending into an addition on the C Side of the structure. Crews from Engine & Truck 53 along with Ladder & Engine 41 (Newtown Square Fire Company) worked to extinguish the fire while overhauling the area of origin. Additional aid from Manoa Fire Company assisted with overhaul and stood-by for water supply. No injuries were reported and D/C Lefferts had Greenhill Road Command.

Rescue & Truck 53 responded on the 2nd Alarm house fire to Cardiff Lane (Haverford Twp.) assisting Oakmont Fire Company as the 2nd due RIT. Members stood-by while HTBF crews brought the fire under control in the single family dwelling. Co. 53 was released by 38 Command a short time later and returned to Marple Twp. Over the last two days Broomall volunteers have been busy answering approx. 25 calls for service, with a large majority occurring during the Christmas morning hours. Members responded to several reported house fires, water rescues, EMS assists, utility equipment failures, and one transfer assignment to Middletown Fire Company while they operated on a house fire in their township. As the holiday drew to a close, Engine & Truck 53 responded to a reported house fire in Newtown Twp. assisting Newtown Square Fire Company. The Broomall Fire Co. would like to remind everyone to stay away from arcing or faulty power equipment and avoid driving through flooded roadways!

Just after 10pm the BFC along with surrounding mutual aid were dispatched to the 100blk of Halcyon Drive for a building fire. Fire was contained to an oven with minor extension into the kitchen. This weekend was spent by several members of the Broomall Fire Company at an Aerial Operations Course, sponsored by the Rocky Run Fire Company & Middletown Fire Company No. 1 in Middletown Township. Firefighters spent the day in the classroom on Saturday and were put into practical exercises on Sunday utilizing Truck 53 and other aerials from the area. Courses like these help hone the skills of our operators and gave insight into the capabilities of the equipment. One practical scenario tested the depth perception of the operator by stacking traffic cones, clearly missing its intended target, landed successfully on Captain Schmidt. Shortly after 9pm the Broomall Fire Company was dispatched to I-476 NB prior to Route 30 for an accident with entrapment. First arriving crews found a SUV rolled over in the shoulder with one subject trapped in the driver’s seat. Rescue & Squad 53 initiated the extrication and were assisted by Radnor Fire Company’s Rescue & MICU 15. The single occupant of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital for treatment by Marple Township Ambulance Corps. The cause of the accident is under investigation by PSP. While our units were operating on the accident, a reported commercial building fire was dispatched to the 2900blk of Springfield Road. Engine 53 along with assisting units from Newtown and Havertown investigated and found the reported smoke to be fog rolling into the area.

Just prior to 2am, the Broomall Fire Co. was alerted to a vehicle accident with entrapment at West Chester Pike & Raymond Road, Marple Twp. First arriving units found a single vehicle resting on top of a guardrail into a tree with one subject heavily entrapped. Rescue & Squad 53 responded along with Manoa Fire Company’s Rescue 56 for the assist and Chief 53 had WCP Command. Crews worked for approx. 40 mins to disentangle the driver who was transported to a local trauma cen...ter by Marple Township Ambulance Corps & Narberth Ambulance. Two additional subjects in the vehicle were also evaluated by EMS and treated for non life threatening injuries. The cause of the accident is under investigation by Marple Township Police Department and the roadway has since been reopened. Live Burn Day for the members of Broomall Fire Company who traveled to the West Chester Fire Department Training Center early this morning. Several scenarios which centered around hose line advancement and search & rescue techniques helped hone the skills of our senior members and gave our newer members the opportunity to learn. A huge thank you to Newtown Square Fire Company and Manoa Fire Company for covering Marple Township while we were away! Also, big thank you to Mike Hochhaus for your help today! Mike is a former member of Broomall, now a member of the WCFD, who helps coordinate training at the facility.

Wires arcing on Cherry Hill Lane, Marple Twp. after a fallen tree limb came in contact with them. PECO has been notified, residents are reminded to remain clear of downed electrical equipment and to call 911.
