Photo depicting stalled trolley cars in Frankford. It captures the aftermath of the Christmas blizzard of 1909 that paralyzed the city. Streetcars became blocke...d in all parts of the city, and in some cases passengers spent the night in them. By morning the railroad men who had struggled valiantly to keep the trains moving were forced to give up. The snowfall lasted from December 25th to the 26th, dumping nearly two feet of snow on Philadelphia. William H. Sliker, photographer (December 1909)
