Thank you for our Arts Committee for hosting this amazing event in Alameda Park this part weekend. Dana Summerville and Shannon McCarren came up with The Polar Express idea due to children having to miss out on so many holiday events(I.e. parade, visiting Santa Clause, and so much more). They want to see the children’s face light up. Our arts committee did an amazing job with the event and it was super successful. Thank you to everyone that helped plan it, worked it, and attended it! We appreciate each and everyone of you.

This opportunity hit home for a few of us personally. I grew up as a Navy Brat and we have a few others that are military spouses in the group as well. We would love to see more people involved in this, especially this year. It is normally hard for those to travel in the military around the holidays but now with Covid-19 it is near impossible. Spouses and children are without their spouses and can’t even travel to see their family. Share with us when you mail out your letters. We would love to challenge each of our followers to mail out one to spouse and one to a child. #military #COVID19 #Christmas2020 #GFWC

The Junior Women’s Club of Butler offered a magical Polar Express train ride Saturday at Alameda Park. Congratulations to our vice-president Caroline Kyne and her husband Peter who welcomed their son, Peter John Kyne IV, aka John, into the world on 12/8 at 12:26pm after 23 hours in labor. John measured 21.5in and 9lbs 4oz. He is absolutely perfect and we can’t wait to meet him. John, Mom and Dad are happy and healthy at home.... . #ThreeofaKyne #GFWC #GFWCPA #onward #pandemicbaby2020

Board Member Spotlight Stephanie Shaffer grew up in Butler, PA for most of her life. She lived above her grandparents funeral home, Foschi's Funeral Home (now Martin), while growing up. She attended Butler Catholic, Butler High School and SRU graduating with a BS in Recreational Therapy. She worked for one of the counties District Courts where she was a Criminal Court Clerk. She has been married to the love of her life for 13 years and they have 2 adorable child...ren. She loves anything that is fun and thrilling. She got her motorcycle license just for fun and became a certified phlebotomist just so she could learn something new . Her favorite saying is "get busy living or get busy dying." They have 3 dogs and 3 cats. In the past they have had chickens, ducks, guinea fowl(her favorite), and a pet turkey just so their children could remember they had a turkey named Tom on Thanksgiving. She loves to draw, paint, pottery, dance and sing (when no one is listening or watching), German sports cars, yoga, Pilates and she just joined CrossFit Recreate in Butler. She is trying to get a grip on her post children/CoVid body. When younger she traveled many times to Mexico and the West Indies, where they had a home. Summers vacations were to Martha Vineyard off of Cape Cod. Her favorite movies are 10, Flashdance and Desperately Seeking Susan. Favorite musicians/groups are Madonna, Nina Simone and Tame Impala. She is a mermaid part of the year who lives in water all summer long at the pool with her kids. She is full of useless knowledge and grew up listening to the sweet sounds of 80’s music on her Walkman or MTV, and she loves to watch the history channel. She loves to prank people by doing different voices and always likes a good joke. She joined club to continue to help others. As she says "Life is to short not to help and share happiness" Since joining club in September of 2019 she has served as Chair of Home Life and Arts Committee. Then this year she is one of our Secretaries and is Chair of Civic Engagement. She loves to say "Never let a day pass that you don’t laugh. Laughter is cathartic!" Steph has been a huge asset to the Club and has never passed up an opportunity to help someone else. She is full of ideas and makes everyone feel like they are her best friend.
