A good portion of my law practice involves family law and custody issues. I always encourage my clients to let go of the bitterness. I ask them "what good does it serve?" Figuring out custody does not have to be a battle over who is the better parent, dividing up a household of belongings does not have to be reduced to a war over muffin pans and weed wackers (true story!). Your children are led by your example and progress is made through respect for one another.
