#Blackmentalhealthmatters Menopause and Black women... did you know there are 34 known symptoms associated with menopause such as anxiety, depression, sleep dis...turbances, mood swings all of which impact womens mental and emotional health and this being compounded by racial trauma for Black women and the onset is earlier. How to combat/cope with menopause and being a Black woman while celebrating both? Gratitude acknowledging that I’m in this phase of my life because I’m still here!!!! And that is reason to celebrate that I am strong, beautiful, healthy, youthful and most importantly I AM HERE ALIVE AND WELL! What causes racial differences in the menopausal experience? Dr. Nanette Santoro, professor and E. Stewart Taylor Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, has contributed to the research in SWAN. When asked why women of color experience menopause differently, she says, My educated guess is that a lot of the differences have their basis in lifestyle, SES (socioeconomic status), and other stressors such as systemic racism and their long-term consequences. On this day we acknowledge the contributions of a visionary who saw past what was happening to what is possible and what lies within us as having the most value that visionary was Dr. Martin Luther King jr. What is the content of your character? What gifts and talents do you posses? And how can you use your gifts and talents to effect positive change in the world?
