UPDATE ON NETCHEZ NOW A/K/A/ BURT: GRAPHIC Burt’s surgery went very well. They removed his entire third eyelid on the right eye. After they removed it, the vet explained and showed me that the cancer tumor took over half of the third eyelid. At this point, the vet feels very confident that they have successfully removed all the cancer and they didn’t see any signs of cancer in any other places. Directly following the surgery, Burt received his first treatment of chemoth...erapy. His next treatment of chemotherapy will occur next week. I’ve attached pictures of the tumor / third eyelid that was removed as well as how Burt currently looks. THANK YOU for the kind words and request for prayers on Facebook! I’m glad to know that we are in this together. Blessings, John

Central Pa Horse Rescue 28.12.2019

We were shocked today when this truck and trailer load holding 160 bales of hay cane down the lane! The wonderful people who brought it to us, JR and Jo, Who had to give up their precious horses, Max and Buddy. last weekend due to financial and health reasons, had this hay remaing and ask the neighbor if they wanted to buy it for their horses Who were also adopted from Central PA Horse Reacue years back. Their names are Lou and Karen.. They told JR and Jo that they just got an entire load of hay but that they would buy the hay from them if they will deliver it to Central PA Horse a rescue. ! So they hand loaded everything themselves and brought it over to us and surprised us today Enough hay for about three or four weeks. What an amazing gift for the horses!!!Thank you everyone!!!!

Doctors Notes from New Bolton on Remi: Problem with both eyes - our poor little guy: Remi was diagnosed with uveitis in both eyes. Progress superficial mineral and ulceration in the left eye which are likely secondary to... the chronic inflammation in that eye. Cytology of the ulcerated area did not reveal any evidence of infection. As discussed, healing of the corneal ulcer was unlikely to progress normally without removal of the abnormal corneal epithelium; therefore diamond burr debridement was performed under standing sedation that day. A subpalpebral lavage (SPL) catheter was placed in the lower eyelid of his left eye to facilitate administration of frequent eye medications. Basic bloodwork was performed to ensure Remi was healthy for long-term administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, which was within normal limits. He was started on itraconazole (anti-fungal), EDTA (calcium binder), and serum (anti-collagenase) in the ulcerated eye which were administered via the SPL catheter. Topical diclofenac ointment (anti- inflammatory) was applied once daily to the right eye, taking care to make the treatments a positive experience for Remi. Oral flunixin (Banamine) was administered twice daily for pain and inflammation. Causes of uveitis include trauma, infection, and immune-mediated response. Immune-mediated uveitis, which is likely the cause in this case, can be a component of Equine Recurrent Uveitis (ERU). There is no cure for ERU, and the disease requires lifelong management. ERU typically responds to treatment with systemic anti-inflammatories (Banamine, Bute or dexamethasone), topical steroids, and topical atropine. All of these drugs can be associated with side effects with chronic use, so surgical therapies have been developed to reduce reliance on these medications for chronic cases. They are designed to reduce the likelihood and severity of flare-ups of uveitis. The two surgical options are an intravitreal gentamicin injection (can be performed standing) or a suprachoroidal cyclosporine implant (performed under general anesthesia). On Monday 8/31/20, a retinal ultrasound of the left eye was performed and revealed no evidence of retinal disease or detachment. An low dose intravitreal injection of gentamicin (4mg) was then performed in the left eye under standing sedation. Remi recovered uneventfully from these procedures. Diagnosis Uveitis - both eyes Corneal ulcer/ mineralization - left eye Posterior lens luxation - left eye Anterior cortical cataract - right eye

Central Pa Horse Rescue 05.07.2019

REMI. Had surgery yesterday and they said everything went well Today they were moving him to what they called a layup farm where he can have medicine inserted through the catheter every four hours I’m not sure if I’m allowed to visit him or not I will find out more tomorrow But here are some pictures that the doctor took for us today Please keep prayers going for Remi. Long road ahead I’m praying this works The expense is crazy so in the end I hope we save his eye! Thank you for all Of you who have donated Now it will be $150 a day At the new placeand it could be three weeks or more Thank you everyone Bless you

Central Pa Horse Rescue 20.06.2019

Remi had surgery today and the doctor said he did great! Tomorrow they are moving him to a facility called "Lay Up Farm" I believe she said.. He will have to stay there now for several weeks. I am hoping we will be able to visit him there. I will find out more tomorrow. I was hoping they would have sent us a picture of him today - but no such luck. Thanks everyone for the prayers for this little guy!

Central Pa Horse Rescue 13.06.2019

Remi update - the procedure for the iv catheter drip will take place tomorrow. Since we can't visit him - I asked the doctor if she will send us a picture of him tomorrow so I can share with all of you! Thank you for everyone's prayers and support for Remi! We will do everything we can to try to save this eye especially since the other eye has the same disease and it is just a manner of time that it too will get to this point. Updates to come!

Central Pa Horse Rescue 06.06.2019

So.... the doctor at New Bolton explained to us that this is a disease that many little POA ponies get. It is called "Uveitis. The left eye just recently became bad and the vet had us ding everything we could but it just didn't seem to be getting any better. new Bolton Hospital is going to insert a catheter iv drip into his eye. She will scrape what she can as well but said that the lens of his eye as dislocated itself as well and she won't be able to fix that. He can se...e some and she said it is worth trying to save it. We don't want to just have his eye removed if there is some chance of recovery. The cost.... we will be over $2,000 by Monday when surgery takes place. Then Remi will be moved to a facility to be cared for 24/7 which could take anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months with medicine going into his eye every 4 hours... The medicine will cost $65 a day not inducing his room and board... Central PA Horse rescue does not get funding - but when we rescue these poor souls - we give it our all....We are asking if anyone could please consider donating for Remi's surgery and continual care - it would be greatly appreciated! We have over 4,000 amazing followers - a wonderful challenge would be is if everyone could donate just $1.00 - we could raise $4,000 - his bills will so much more than that - but having some help would be so appreciated. He's not the only one we are here taking care of - there are 22 others here at the farm - of which at least 7 others have many issues and daily medications as well. Please consider donating to centralpahorserescue.org. Prayers for Remi! It was so hard to leave him there but we know he is in the best of hands! See more

Central Pa Horse Rescue 25.05.2019

Remi is heading to New Bolton Hospital. Trying to save his eye He has been on 2 eye medications 3 x a day for the past two months for what seems to have been a scratch in his eye that turned into an abscess It has not been getting any better even with all the great attempts and medication Our last hope is to take him to the hospital for them to insert an IV drip into his eye. . It will cost $65 a day for the medication not counting room and board at the hospital for a min...imum of three weeks to a max of three months to try to save his eye The ophthalmologist will look at his eye upon arrival and decide if it is worth trying to save or remove As the founders of Central PA Horse rescue and having no funding or grants , all we can do is hope that our followers will help us with this huge expense and donate, any amount will be appreciated to help us to try to save his eye. Please help Remi and consider donating to Central PA Horse Rescue through PayPal at Centralpahorserescue.org website. Lots of prayers for this little guy Thank you everyone See more
