The services are as follows: holds pick up by appointment, phone reference, and book return via the drop box. This week, we will offer these services on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday - December 28, 29 and 30 - between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. Questions? Call us at the branch during these hours. 215-686-1766. THANK YOU to all of you who contacted the library system regarding the status of this branch.
Our neighbors are making the most of the most wonderful time of the year
If you walk by the branch, you may notice the tree that has been decorated for the holidays on the corner of 7th and Carpenter. This lovely flowering crab apple was planted last month by the Tree Tenders of Bella Vista. It was planted in memory of Caleer Miller, a "Teen Leadership Assistant" who worked at this library several years ago. I want to offer sincere thanks to Caleer's parents who decorated the tree to honor their son and to bring cheer to everyone who sees it.
It's cold outside so let's dance and sing inside !
Gift Giving Option: One of our neighborhood schools - Eliza B. Kirkbride - is raising money to expand the collection of multicultural books in their library! https://foundationgive.com//celebrating-diversity-through-

The health and safety of our staff and customers is our utmost priority. In the interest of limiting the impact and spread of COVID-19, all Free Library buildings are currently closed to the public. While our buildings remain closed, some libraries are offering contactless materials pickup and returns. (The Charles Santore Library is not among those libraries offering contactless materials pickup or returns.) In addition, programs are proceeding virtually and our award-winning digital resources are available 24/7. Learn more here: https://libwww.freelibrary.org/about/coronavirus

Our Library Assistant 3 Kyle recommends The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton First published in 1967, this classic novel allows the reader to peek into the life of Ponyboy Curtis. As our narrator and primary protagonist, we experience the challenges Ponyboy, his brothers Sodapop & Darry, and their group of friends (known as the Greasers) face on a daily basis in the rough & tough East Side. This close knit group of boys find themselves in an ongoing conflict... with the Socs (short for Socials), privileged boys from the West Side. This powerful book touches on themes of prejudice, socioeconomic status, and class warfare. An influential read over 50 years after original publication, this coming of age novel has proved timeless and still resonates today. Also recommended: 1983’s The Outsiders, a compelling and faithful movie adaptation directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Here are some helpful links if you are interested in placing this title on hold: https://catalog.freelibrary.org/Search/Results https://www.overdrive.com/media/986320/the-outsiders Whether experiencing this novel for the first time (or rereading after many years like myself), I hope you enjoy! It was certainly a blast from the past for this reader. From the staff of Charles Santore Library Branch, have a safe and healthy Labor Day weekend. We look forward to providing more in a series of staff picks & recommendations in the near future.
