On Saturday, August 4, members of the CIS of Philadelphia ELECT team participated in The Community Baby Shower and Early Childhood Expo hosted by Bethanna and the Philadelphia Mayor's Office of Education Check out our very own Cheryl Phillips and Carla Johnson providing ELECT resource materials in this CBS news clip. CIS of Philadelphia is a School District of Philadelphia ELECT provider agency that supports pregnant and parenting teens in various schools throughout the city.
Our Communities In Schools of Philadelphia Seniors were invited to take a break from the hard work they are putting in during the summer term. CIS of Philadelphia ELECT Site Coordinators hosted the students summer field trips to the Philadelphia Zoo and Dave and Busters. CIS of Philadelphia Site Coordinator Regina Gibson and Camelot Excel Academy North ELECT Program participants attended #CollegeSigningDay on May 2, 2018 to celebrate their path to post-secondary education. Students attended the graduation and college rally at the Temple University Liacouras Center and received words of encouragement from former First Lady, Michelle Obama, celebrities, performing artists, and athletes. Attendees included Rebel Wilson, Bradley Cooper, Robert DeNiro, Dikembe Motumbo, Ciara, Zendaya, Keke Palmer, and Questlove Better Make Room Reach Higher
Good Food for All provides education and resources on issues surrounding food insecurity to those who are facing and fighting hunger. CIS of Philadelphia students from the Camelot Excel Academy South ELECT site participated in a field trip to the #GoodFoodForAll Conference at the Free Library. Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger and the Freelibrary Culinary Literacy Center hosted the event. The students learned about eating well on a budget, reducing food waste, campus gardening, the Farm Bill, and more. This year's theme was Building Skills, Strategies, and Community. The students chose three workshops to attend and sampled healthy food in the Free Library of Philadelphia's Culinary Literacy Center.
CIS of Philadelphia would like to thank ShopRite of Bridge & Harbison for supporting the Breakfast Club at Excel Academy South! Holly Stevens, Registered Dietitian at Shop Rite's Bridge and Harbison, store led the students in creating a healthy breakfast menu to kick-off the series.
