Days dwindle to our next presidential election, and it’s a time more than ever for Jesus followers to dig into learning about our country’s history of entwining religion with racism. Understanding our racial history sets the stage for solutions, but until we understand the depth of the malady we won't fully embrace the aggressive treatment it requires. Given the centuries of Christian compromise with bigotry, believers today must be prepared to tear down old structures and build up new ones. This book provides an in-depth diagnosis for a racially divided American church and suggests ways to foster a more equitable and inclusive environment among God's people. Politics is braided with our faith life. We must be actively anti-racist or our politics perpetuate racist systems that hurt our brothers and sisters. Politics deals with dismantling systemic racism, addressing police reform, securing food and shelter and healthcare for those who our unjust systems hurt and ending mass incarceration among many other unjust structures upheld in society. Reading books like THE COLOR OF COMPROMISE will help open Jesus followers’ eyes to how deeply entrenched our politics are in a privilege that directly clashes with the biblical mandate to do justice and to love mercy.
