Happy New Years from all of us here at the CFD.

A busy night for the crews at the CFD! First call was a structure fire in the area of SW 3rd Ave. Assistant 1 arrived to find a small fire that had extended into the wall from the chimney clean out. Crews from Companies 1, 5 and 8 were able to hold the fire to the area of origin. Second call was a Structure Fire on West Front St. crews arrived to find a kerosene heater that started to burn up but the homeowners were able to put the fire out with a an extinguisher. Crews from ...Companies 1 and 5 did extensive ventilation due high readings of Carbon Monoxide. With temperatures falling from anywhere to the teens to single digits we ask you to be prepared with the following: Make sure all smoke alarms are working, if the alarms are over 10 years old, please replace them. Make sure carbon monoxide alarms are in working order and if they are older then 7 years please replace them. Please know the signs and symptoms of carbon monoxide exposure. If in doubt call 911. Make sure space heaters have their own space. There needs to be 4 feet around the heater and not obstructed with any objects and do not cover with clothing or any other objects. Keep all flammable fuels away from heaters. Heaters are a good ignition source for flammable fuels. Please make sure that all furnaces, fire places and chimneys are serviced by a certified technician so they are safe to use.
