Yesterday was a busy day here at the Centers! We had volunteers working on the Ballroom. We upgraded to energy efficiency LED lights. We also had another small team working on preparing our library for upgrades.

We were honored to support Tar Anall America hosting the annual Hunger Strikers Commemoration mass last Sunday here at the Center. Tar Anall America celebrated their annual Commemoration Mass to remember those who died on Hunger Strike in 1981. It is held this time of year because on October 3rd, 1981 the Strike was called off after ten young men sacrificed their lives and several mothers signed their faltering sons off of the protest. We remember these events and work to e...ducate people to ensure that the history of the conflict's horrors and violence, experienced all over the North of Ireland, will never repeat itself. This year, we also commemorated in a special way the 100th anniversary of the death of the Lord Mayor of Cork, Terence MacSwiney, who died on Hunger Strike on October 24,1920 during the Irish War of Independence

We are proud to share an update from our busy Lighting Committee, who has worked hard to look for ways to increase energy efficiency and save money! (1) Garage: new lighting 95% complete (2) Barry room: New lighting complete ... (3) Ballroom: Planning to start work in October (4) Lighting committee is surveying the rest of the building for additional savings.
