To keep you updated ... We have been in contact with Garth Everett regarding reopening . I personally was really hoping to open back up Friday or Saturday ! We just got a response from Garth .... Colleagues,... I know some of you are getting emails about Rep Kortz’s HB 2240. Here’s the deal in Governor Wolf’s April 27th PR on allowable outdoor recreational activities, he specified that golf courses, marinas, guided fishing trips and privately owned campgrounds were allowed to be open on May 1st. His PR did not mention shooting ranges or sportsmen’s clubs. I queried DCED if this opening of outdoor recreational activities included shooting ranges and sportsmen’s clubs and received the reply below NO!. I hope to move Rep Kortz’s bill out of State Government tomorrow as is. I will file an amendment for the floor for 2nd consideration on Monday which will make Bill’s bill like every other opening bill we have passed that is clubs and ranges are allowed to open under CDC guidelines for distancing. Some clubs and ranges have remained open despite the Governor’s original closure order which included all outdoor recreation businesses unaware that they were included or ignoring the order, others stayed open and were ordered by PSP to close and many, like the one in my district, followed the Gov’s order. Bottom line Rep Kortz’s legislation, when amended, will allow outdoor ranges and clubs to be open as they should have been from the start. If any of you have contacts with the leadership of the 2A or sporting club world, I urge you to get the word out to them on this. Rep Kortz and I are trying to get these clubs and ranges open. Our new AR500 steel targets are built and in place at the Bear in the mountain range .(First range you come to when entering ) please be respectful of them ! A lot of man hours went into them and they are very nice ! New steel will not be added if the existing ones are not respected and takin care of ! I’ll post a pic in the comments ... Thank you !!
