We are happy to share a list of Rebuild improvements coming to the Lawncrest Recreation Center and Library! These improvements include both Community Guided Improvements, and General Improvements. Look for future updates about how to engage with the design team. You can provide feedback on the Community Guided Improvements this Fall and Winter. These opportunities will happen both online and at the sites. The General Improvements items are necessary maintenance, replacements ...or upgrades. These items do not need community input but will be shared. Here is a look back at our 4-way public private partnership project, Ingersoll Commons. This 10-unit affordable homeownership project included a number of sustainable elements and features throughout the site. The site plan includes a half block park, including a storm water management rain garden. The other half of the site features ten new houses facing the new park with a new private street between the homes and park. The homes share a stormwater management system to manage the on-site rainfall and decrease the amount of storm water flowing into the combined sewer system. When creative thought and partnership join together a lot can be accomplished in affordable sustainable housing and community improvement. #philadelphia #affordablehousing #sustainability #sustainableliving #communityventures #ingersoll

Dear Friends, Partners and Neighbors, Community Ventures adds its voice to those supporting Black Lives Matter and others calling for accountability and justice in response to the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, and to other crimes against people of color. Community Ventures’ mission is to develop housing and improve Philadelphia neighborhoods in partnership with local Philadelphia community organizations. Our mission does not directly address polic...e violence against Black Americans. However, it directly addresses poverty, which disproportionately harms Philadelphia’s Black population, and which has been worsened by the severe effects of COVID-19 and its economic impacts on Black communities. Community Ventures’ program of partnering with local neighborhood organizations has kept Black voices in the mix and has raised up Black community priorities as we help to rebuild areas of Philadelphia that have suffered decades of disinvestment. However, in spite of meeting established equal opportunity goals that were created in part to address historic exclusion of Black citizens from the construction workforce, we are not satisfied with the levels of participation by Black and Brown workers on our construction sites. We commit to redoubling our efforts to increase the diversity of our construction contracting and workforce, particularly among the skilled trades. We are excited for our partnership with Grands As Parents, Inc. to provide 14 affordable apartments in our Susquehanna Square development for grandparents & kinship caregivers.
