MY STORY 25 years ago I launched a brick & mortar store and an athletic apparel brand (that I designed) both under the name of PUMP DOG (PERFORMANCE APPAREL). In a short 5-year period, I managed to do some pretty incredible things as a solopreneur; I got product placement in a Spike Lee movie He Got Game with Denzel Washington and NBA star Ray Allen. ... I got product placement in multiple sit coms on tv. I sponsored 2 title fights on (HBO and SHOWTIME) and got placement in 25 department stores in Japan. Mike Tyson wore my gear, as well as some of the big names in professional bodybuilding at the time. I got PUMP DOG in 6 million paper catalogs - the centerfold spread and the ONLY private label brand amongst licensed NBA , NFL, MLB , and MLS apparel. And I shipped to more than 20 different countries around the world . Every trade show I did was successful and the company got more popular. Virtually every door that I knocked on said ‘YES’ to buying my wares. It was a lot to hold together, but it was exciting AF. And this was all before the iPhone and ‘social media’. Everyone in the industry me told me that they expected me to be successful. I was in NYC one early September morning to review and sign a licensing deal for PD that I had been negotiating for almost a year. It was the morning of 9/11/2001, 20 years ago this year, when two flew into TWC Many industries were affected and MY DEAL was ultimately and permanently put ON HOLD. Ugh!That was a body blow and shortly, I let things fizzle out. PUMP DOG never really left my heart though. I have remained in the fitness industry over the years. I have owned, managed, and operated fitness centers in and around Philadelphia since then. I currently operate a small online fitness coaching company (DAM GOOD Bodies Online - DGBO) with my business partner, David A. Miller. I also do graphic design work EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK. Needless to say, my design skills are sharper than ever. And I’ve studied and learned social media, funnel building , and direct-response marketing over the past 2 years. So, where am I going with all of this? Yep - PUMP DOG!!!!!!! Now that I can go Direct To Consumer, I feel it in my bones that it’s time to relaunch my brand. Character, Justice and Decency has won today. This country is the greatest in SPITE of its sinful, bloody, and hateful beginnings - much of which reverberates today in NO SMALL WAYS. ... He who controls the media (and FOX is main-stream media too, despite what they tell you to believe), controls the minds of the masses. Our lives are MOSTLY affected by our personal decisions and actions, based on our awareness, opportunities, and access. But for the history of this country, powerful men have crafted powerful laws to disenfranchise those unlike themselves. So I voted for progress. I voted AGAINST hatred and division. I voted for EQUAL rights, of which we are STILL generations away from actually experiencing. I ‘voted’ for fair and transparent elections. I ‘voted’ for EVERY VOTE TO BE COUNTED. I voted to STAND up for my community. I ‘voted’ to be a LEADER in my community (with my nascent following) by encouraging personal performance, personal accountability, and to propagate positivity. I’m a creator and a winner - even if it is just my personal mindset - and for whatever time God (however you see Him, Her, The Universe, Self) has left for me on this earth, I will use my voice to SPEAK non-hate, self-love and when appropriate, I will put my foot down and my fists up (figuratively or otherwise) to defend against INJUSTICE and INTOLERANCE. This country has much work to do. Tomorrow, next week, next January and beyond, a not-so-small portion of this country will continue to stand AGAINST PROGRESS and EQUALITY. That’s just the sad, sad truth. But I will continue to stand AGAINST THOSE MASSES who would rather throw themselves on their own swords rather than to see the ‘lower caste’ prosper by their own hands. America, WE have work to do.
