Delaney's Craft Shack

So, this post isn't for sale, but I've been super excited about this project and wanted to share it. Sorry this is a little wordy... I've been working on this off and on since before Christmas, when time permits. But really, the project spans about 17 years and three (really four) generations... The boys and I finally finished it this week and they got to give it to my Dad this morning. The box is cherry with maple trim on the lid and splines in the corners. The cherry wa...s from trees that Dad and I harvested about 17 years ago from property that my Grandfather had a junkyard on well before I was born. We fell the trees and had a portable saw mill come and rough mill them into boards that we stacked and air dried... Roll forward to now, I wanted to surprise him with something made from it and push my wood working skills and try to make tight joints and near prefect (for me) corners. I did the construction and the boys helped with sanding and finishing. The look on my boys faces when PeePaw and Grandma surprised them with the first visit since Thanksgiving was priceless, they said their hellos and immediately ran to grab it and give it to PeePaw.

I haven't been posting much from the woodshop over the past few weeks, but not due to lack of being busy! This live edge cherry and black walnut base entry/hall table has been a labor of love. You'll notice the top has a walnut bow tie to control a crack in the piece and a few knots have been filled with copper...
