Costa Rica is a great oasis in a troubling world. One of the oldest democracies, the people are very proud of their free press and ability to speak about anything anytime. Freedom of speech is something that many people take for granted. But in most countries around the world there are close minded rules and backwards laws. Over the last 27 years of reforesting, building bridges, and helping many schools we have witnessed many positive developments in Costa Rica. The co...untry used to have the fastest deforestation rate in the world. Now the majority of the country is covered in trees and around 25% is protected in natural parks and nature preserves. Costa Rica is a great place to visit. Please let us know when you are coming. We give great tours of the rainforest and our woodworking facilities. It is fascinating to see how logs are cut into bookmatched veneer, quartersawn teak decking, and consecutive slabs to make beautiful wooden products.

We are planting a lot of teak trees since the rainy season has started in democratic Costa Rica. These are clones that have been selected from the fastest growing, straightest trees on our 27 year old reforestation projects. Why can’t they clone trees that are square and without any bark or sapwood? That would increase our yields a lot!... Primarily we plant native species of trees in danger of extinction such as cocobolo rosewood, mahogany, Spanish cedar, goncalo alves and granadillo. Here are a couple of pictures.
