Have you ever walked down a beautiful barn aisle only to observe pinned ears, the gulping sounds of cribbing and obnoxious banging on stall doors? I'm sure you ...also know of some horses that never colic, rarely suffer an injury and are consistently happy and content. What’s the difference? Better breeding? Better training? Better nutrition? Luck? Horses must be allowed to be horses. Living together, outside with unlimited forage. Learning their place in the herd, navigating through ditches, roaming. MOVING. Having the freedom to rest when they want, eat when they want and go where they want with the herd. Horses do not need humans to keep them comfortable and cozy. They do not need to be fed at 8:00am every single day. Change it up a little so that you are not a slave to the timetable of your horses and they are not overcome with anxiety and expectation. Let them be out in the rain. Let them go without a blanket to scratch their backs and get some nice grooming from a friend. Teach them how to be tied and to be on their own. Take a walk or go on a hack by yourself to develop some independence. Ride twice in one day. Some days just walk. Ulcers, colic, cribbing, anxiety, bad behaviors, etc. are frequently brought on by our own best intentions. But we are often doing way too much. Let horses be horses.
Looking for a solid citizen for a client, coming out of a lesson program is ideal. WTC. Older with some maintenance okay. Looking for a confidence building, not spooky, steady steed! Show me what you’ve got! Budget is low four figures.Looking for a solid citizen for a client, coming out of a lesson program is ideal. WTC. Older with some maintenance okay. What have we learned with our stall cameras? Baby Q is a professional napper. #doublebarrelcreek #happyhorses #helicoptermom #sleepyhorses
48 hours later and as I’m feeding dinner to the other barn cats, this one walks in and jumps up in front of her food bowl like she wasn’t on a two day hiatus. So thankful to have her home safe! Thank you to everyone for your kind words and sharing her around.
UPDATE: Our girl came home late on the 7th. Thank you everyone for your support and for spreading the word! FRIENDS IN PENNSYLVANIA Our little Leia has g...one missing. She was last seen on Wilkes Road in Gillett, PA Wednesday night (8/5/2020). We are hoping that she just went on an adventure and forgot to leave a note, but she has never been gone this long. She is very friendly so maybe someone picked her up. Responds to Leia and comes when called. If anyone knows anything or has seen her around please call or text Ellie. Thank you. See more
So beyond proud of these two! After changing out an ill fitting saddle and only ONE training ride/lesson these two have gained so much consistency in head carriage as a result of learning the importance of riding with a soft hand and focusing on riding the hind end of the horse! Way to go, Nicole and Magic! Can’t wait to see what the future holds for this pair! #doublebarrelcreek #saddlefitmatters #happyhorses

Stitched in Gillett’s SHEEP 4 SHEEP These four older, but still absolutely adorable sheep came out of a cruelty case where they had NEVER been outside. They ...never got to run around and roll in the sun and they didn’t even know what fresh air smelt like before Pets Alive took them into their care. At Stitched in Gillett we love the amazing things that Pets Alive does not only for these sheep, but all of their animals! In appreciation we would like to sponsor the adoption of these four sheep so they can all find a forever home together with Stitched in Gillett’s founder, Ellie Woznica. These three girls and one handsome boy will be given the life of luxury at Double Barrel Creek where they will have huge pastures to explore and enjoy while receiving top quality care. We want to let everyone help make this possible for these sheep so donate through us to get various sheep themed Stitched in Gillett originals! Our goal is to pay for all four adoptions which comes to $500. Even if we don’t make this goal 20% of ALL PROCEEDS WILL BE DONATED TO PETS ALIVE. Stay tuned this weekend to see what you can get for donating!

So many people are complaining about having to wear masks at their boarding facilities. We are a private farm, but we think we should have come up with this a long time ago for grooming muddy and shedding horses! #doublebarrelcreek #coronavirus #staysafe
Nothing in these videos is perfect, but what is perfect is the heart of this little guy. Always so much fun to be on his back. Can’t believe he is going to be 4 at the end of the month! #neckreiningpractice #bridleless #doublebarrelcreek
Somebody lost a cap (baby tooth) with his dinner tonight! #doublebarrelcreek #growingup
