Dr. Terrence Daniels was an avid pilot who loved spending every spare minute at the airport. He would often say that being at the airport, whether flying or simply watching the planes take off, caused all the world’s problems to melt away. In August 2019, he lost his life doing what he loved the most flying. This bench honors his legacy with the hope that other people’s problems can melt away watching the beauty of the sky.

Aircraft: Cessna 172, N6086G Instructor: Niv Traditionally, a student pilot’s shirttail is removed upon completion of their first solo.... Prior to the introduction of headsets and radio communication, instructors sat behind their student pilot in open-cockpit tandem aircraft. The lack of hearing equipment in an open-cockpit and tandem seating arrangement made communication between instructor and student challenging. According to aviation lore, the student’s flight instructor would grab hold of and tug on the student’s shirttail to get their attention and provide directions as necessary.
