If you have a gas or oil fired heater, you do need a carbon monoxide detector. Even in a new and well-maintained system, there is always a possibility that a problem could occur that releases carbon monoxide gasses into the home. Purchasing a carbon monoxide detector from a home improvement store and installing it in your home at the suggested location is a must. And remember; make sure you keep the batteries fresh, just like in your smoke detectors.
