Our Broadway celebration today takes us to the Tony Award nominations today. "Jagged Little Pill" received the most nominations with 15 which include Best Musical. Inspired by Alanis Morissette’s Grammy Award-winning masterpiece, Jagged Little Pill brings to the stage the humanly recognizable and magnificently staged story (The Daily Beast) of the Healys, a suburban family whose serene Connecticut lives collide head-on with some of the most burning issues of today. Featurin...g Morissette’s iconic songs, including Ironic, You Oughta Know, and Hand in My Pocket, as well as newly written material, this big-hearted musical breaks the mold (The New York Times). Our celebration of Broadway continues with Broadway's longest running musical, "The Phantom of the Opera". The Majestic Theatre in NYC has been the home of "Phantom" since January 1988. The show is the one where all shows have been measured. It's songs and score are widely known and used. The classic musical, based on the 1910 horror novel by Gaston Leroux, follows a deformed composer who haunts the grand Paris Opera House. Sheltered from the outside world in an underground c...avern, the lonely, romantic man tutors and composes operas for Christine, a gorgeous young soprano star-to-be. As Christine’s star rises, and a handsome suitor from her past enters the picture, the Phantom grows mad, terrorizing the opera house owners and company with his murderous ways. Still, Christine finds herself drawn to the mystery man. The video below is the scene for the title song "The Phantom of the Opera" where the Phantom has Christine in his grasp. Next up on our celebration of Broadway is a show that will most likely be nominated for many Tony Awards this week. "Moulin Rouge" is based on the hit 2001 movie of the same name and opened in July 2019. Based in the infamous club in Paris, France, it tells the love story between Satine and Christian. The story is told using classic and newer songs such as "Lady Marmalade", "Your Song", and "Bad Romance" along with originals like "Come What May". This video is just a taste of what "Moulin Rouge" has to offer. #broadwaywillbeback

With yesterday's sad announcement of the Broadway shut down continuing until at least May 30, 2021, I thought we could use some reminders of the wonderful feeling we get going to Broadway. I'm going to post scenes from some Broadway shows that you may or may not know over the next few weeks to celebrate that magic of Broadway. I thought the best one to start would be "Defying Gravity" from "Wicked". Have you seen this show? How did you feel seeing this number the first time?

Very sad day, but expected. I, along with others, miss Broadway like crazy. It will be back though!! Plans are underway for me to return to Broadway in Fall 2021. Hopefully I will have some information in the near future!
