I was cultivating the asparagus patch today, getting ready to add compost, and I saw an early bird! I buried it, hopefully it will survive the two frosty nights we have coming!

We split the fatties up today. 1 week, and out to grass they go.

A practice run on our newest packaging methods. No air. No way for air to get in. Just a little fine tuning to do.

For locals, we will only be taking online orders for Saturday pick ups for a few weeks. The Farm Store will be closed to in-person shopping. The reason is pretty good though, you all bought up all the root crops we grew this year! I have already planned to grow more for this coming season. There are some items remaining, and we will always have eggs, so we are continuing online ordering with pick-ups on Saturday, still 9-2 pm. Please place orders by 8 pm on Fridays. We wi...ll likely be around on Saturdays tending birds, planting, seeding and weeding, but if not, your order will be in the store cooler, labelled with your name. A little clarification on our 2020 Thanksgiving turkey giveaway, co-sponsored by our friends at ZBC hatchery in Newport. We are looking for people to private message either us or ZBC hatchery a very brief nomination for a family that could really use a turkey this year. Please message by November 11, so we have time to make our decision and notify you and the family. This is a fresh, never frozen turkey. Turkey pick-up is the week of Thanksgiving, and recipents should be ...in the Mifflin to Newport to Harrisburg general areas. We will arrange delivery/pick-up as necessay. Folks, we have a lot of new stuff today, and some last chance items for 2020 at the PA Open Air Farmers Market until 4 pm today! New this week, we have baby mesclun mix (very limited), baby arugula, carrots, fennel, salad turnips, and purple top turnips. While supplies last, fresh baby ginger and peppers. We have lots of mix and match choices for making dried pepper flakes, freezing, pepper jelly, cowboy candy or hot sauces. $2/pt, 3/qt, and $8/ 1/2 peck (4 quarts). ... We also have onions, potatoes, acorn squash, garlic, and parsley. Interested in Italian parsley to dry or freeze for your winter soups, potatoes, and casseroles? Message us, and we will hook you up! We just have a few Thanksgiving turkeys remaining, and stop by if you are interested in our winter greens delivery service starting in December.

Well, here is something new for us. When we began this adventure, our goal was to provide quality food to everyone. It's been a very rewarding time for us. With that in mind, we have a little something to announce. We at EJ Market Gardens, along with ZBC hatchery, Newport, PA, are teaming up to provide a family in need with a fresh, pasture raised turkey for their Thanksgiving feast. ... ZBC is a local hatchery who specializes in all of your poultry needs. They especially excell in difficult to find breeds. Check them out on Facebook. If you know of someone who can truly benefit from this, please reach out to either of us. Tell us their story, and we'll decide from there. We are all set up at the Newport Farmers Market, sponsored by the Friends of Newport until 3 pm today. Fresh cut this morning, baby arugula and mesclun mix! Baby ginger, peppers, potatoes, acorn squash, onions, garlic and parsley.... Pre-order your fresh Thanksgiving (delivered to the last market on 11/22) or sign up for home delivered Winter Greens (and other produce) starting in December. A few decorative gourds, corn stalks, tassles, and wreathes.

This weekend in the Farm Store, we are happy to have beautiful oyster mushrooms from our friends at Mariflora Farm & Homestead. They are $5/pint and $10/quart. This week only! Eggs 2/$5 special Baby Ginger Acorn Squash... Potatoes Onions Garlic Parsley PEPPERS We still have a limited amount of green bells and sweet snacking peppers. Hots: we have carolina reapers, orange/chocolate ghost, habeneros, jalapenos, mole peppers, anaheim chili, poblano, sweet heat, shishitos, and mad hatters. We also have habanadas, the no heat habeneros (great to mix with habaneros or other hots to bring down the heat to your taste). We are doing $2/pint, $3/quart or $8/ 1/2 peck (4 quarts), you can mix and match peppers. The peppers we do have larger quantities of are habenero, habanada, and jalapenos (green & red). Get those pepper flake, hot sauce, cowboy candy and pepper jelly recipes out! We still have some corn stalks, corn tassle and decorative gourds left, and wreaths are displayed in the store. I will be making more this week as well. We do have a few pasture raised turkeys remaining for Thanksgiving, get yours reserved! You can also get tickets for the Beale Township Fire Company No. 5 gun and turkey raffles in the store, which takes place on 11/18 at 7 pm. You do not need to be present to win. You can also put your $25 deposit down on a fresh, pasture-raised Thanksgiving turkey. Turkeys will be delivered at the market, Tuesday, the week of Thanksgiving.
