As many of you know, the President and Governor Wolf have stated raising the minimum wage to $15/hr is a priority. At the federal level, the increase was originally included in the stimulus package but due to a parliamentary procedure, the minimum wage increase had to be removed. However, the democrats and others have indicated that this is an item they will move forward in the future. At the state level, Governor Wolf has indicated this item in on his legislator priorities ...in the current state budget negotiations. The AAP Professional/Agency Relations Committee developed an Impact Statement for use in a communication campaign to federal/state legislators AND the media. This campaign will focus on this unified message that will be sent on the same days across the state to gain the attention of all our legislators and media outlets. The dates for this campaign are Wednesday, March 24th to Wednesday, March 31st with a weekly reminder to your legislator to consider increasing the reimbursements for EMS PRIOR to increasing the minimum wage. Starting today, we are asking you to send the impact statement to your state and federal legislators as well as your local media outlets. In addition, we are sharing with other states/organizations to encourage their participation in this campaign: a ground swell at the state and national level to gain attention! The impact statement can be found on www.aa-pa.org. Unfortunately, we are limited in space on social media.

The City of Saint Marys Police Department has received ongoing calls expressing concerns regarding the traffic being backed up at Dairy Queen on S. St. Marys St.... We recognize that citizens view this to be a traffic hazard. SMPD has looked into the matter and we have concluded that it is lawful for a motor vehicle to be stopped in such a manner with its turn signal on. The activity occurring during busy timeframes at Dairy Queen is similar to motorists waiting to turn at any other location in such a manner. SMPD reminds motorists that good driving habits always include being observant and anticipating these types of traffic conditions in their daily travels. Drivers should anticipate this traffic stoppage on warm days and weekends as these tend to be Dairy Queen’s busier hours.

When a specific area code appears to be on the verge of running out of available telephone number combinations, the Federal Communications Commission requires s...tates to implement a relief plan. Starting this Saturday, Oct. 3, residents in the 814 region will be encouraged to voluntarily use 10-digit dialing (area code plus seven-digit telephone number). During this permissive 10-digit dialing period, if customers forget and dial just seven digits, their calls still will be completed. Starting April 3, 2021, all calls made within the 814 area code MUST be placed using the area code plus the seven-digit telephone number. Beginning May 1, 2021, or when all possible 814 telephone number combinations are exhausted, a new 582 area code will be assigned to customers requesting new phone numbers. Here are some important points: Your telephone number, including current area code, will not change. You will need to dial the area code + telephone number for all local calls. You will continue to dial 1 + area code + telephone number for all long distance calls. What is now a local call will remain a local call. The price of a call, coverage area, or other rates and services will not change due to the overlay. You can still dial just three digits to reach 911, 211, 311, 511 and 811.
