#FridayFacts Ridgway Armory: The Ridgway Armory was built in 1904 as a Country Club where the local Pennsylvania National Guard Unit met. The Pennsylvania State... Armory Board bought the building in 1932 for the exclusive use of the Pennsylvania National Guards 112th Infantry Regiment, Company H. The building is one of seven in the state that has the Drill Hall above the administration section. This design is one of 4 initial floorplans for our State National Guard Armories. This particular Armory Drill Hall is spanned by a modified Fink truss roof with a curved bottom chord. Meaning the horizontal span, on the bottom, of the truss is curved and is considered to be significant in its engineering. The National Register of Historic Places certified it as a significant historical landmark in 1989. While it is no longer used as a National Guard facility and is privately owned, it still maintains its Historic Certification. See more

NEW YEAR NEW LOGO CONTEST HELP US DESIGN A NEW LOGO FOR THE NEW YEAR 2021 The Elk County Historical Society is asking for your help in designing a new logo for the new year. Please check out the following guidelines for your submission. *Original creation of a logo to be used on merchandise and letterhead. *The shape of Elk County and a Bugling Elk must be included.... *$250.00 in local gift cards will be the grand prize. *Submissions deadline is December 31, 2020. *Unveiling will be at our Annual Dinner in March of 2021. *All types of artwork are admissible (drawing, painting, mixed media, digital, photo) but it MUST be original. *No Copyright infringement. *All submissions become the property of The Elk County Historical Society.
