But what does it mean? . To us it means: allowing an animal to live it’s life as closely to the way God intended as possible... giving it everything it needs to live each day stress-free honoring the fact that it’s an animal, not a human, and therefore requires different care than a child or other human being would {they likely don’t want to be snuggled, despite how hard it may be not to! } using high quality feed or grasses to feed them and make them the healthiest animal possible understanding that all good things take time and that typically it’s when we rush to the finish line that we pull a muscle. Sustainable farming begins with a healthy pace of growth that can be sustained the entire time without hurting or harming anything or anyone. . While we believe that the purpose these animals were put into our care is to feed, fuel and sustain our families and ourselves, we also believe that everyday should be a good day, as far as they’re concerned. They deserve to live their best lives until the day their lives end, just like you and me. . . #regenerativeagriculture #sustainableagriculture #pignessofthepig #joelsalatin #farmingquotes #supportyourlocalfarmer #pasturedpork #northeastpa #upstateny #farmersmarkets See more

FARMER FAVORITE #2 And yes... I was right . Paul loves those dang cows! And don’t get me wrong, I love them too! But at one point last summer, we chased cows (ON FOOT) 7 (yes, seven; 7) miles before noon! .... In all fairness, that was our fault. And no, not because we left the gate open. It was because our fences really leave a lot to be desired. That’s why, this spring, we’re hoping to have new fences put up and begin restarting our herd! Some serious winter planning is happening right now in preparation for all of this! It’s our goal to have a big and thriving herd of beef cattle in the coming years! . If you have good fences, cows are really rather low maintenance. We make sure they have proper, balanced minerals, easy accessibility to water and lush, green grasses available at all times. Other than that, they really do the rest! So I get why he likes them so much, for sure! Plus, of all the animals of care for, the cows probably require the most #tractortime for him and that’s also his favorite . We’ve put a lot of thought into the breeds we’ll continue to work with in our herd. We’ve chosen 2 breeds that thrive in mountainous terrain by being resilient and excellent foragers! Any guesses on what breeds we’ve selected?! I’ll give you a hint... it ain’t angus or ! . . #supportsmallfarms #farmersmarketpennsylvania #binghamtonfarmersmarket #cows #cow #grassfedbeef #regenerativeagriculture #healthylifestyle #joelsalatin #farmerfavorite #pennsylvaniafarm See more

FARMER FAVORITE!! . This is SUCH a difficult decision. When I think of the animals we raise, I honestly love all of them so much! You don’t typically get into farming (the way we do) by being averse to animals. However, someone recently asked us what our favorite animal is that we raise here on the Ranch and I would have to say mine are the chickens! . I’m not particularly fond of the meat birds. They’re not the prettiest looking things and they like to peck my legs wh...en I step into the chicken tractors to feed them, but the layers... the layers are where it’s at! . They’re pretty and sweet and calm (for the most part) and they give us delicious and nutritious goodies every single day, almost without fail! I love watching them run around the yard all day long searching for grass and bugs! Their tick consumption is a BIG benefit, for sure! . I’m planning on asking Farmer Paul what his favorite animal we raise is tonight and I’ll be sure to get back to you all later this week with his response! I bet I already know!! . We’re adding a new type of animal to the farm this year and I have a feeling it may give the laying hens a run for their money! Any guesses of what it might be?! . . #supportlocalfarmers #northeastpa #pafarm #nyfarm #binghamtonfarmersmarket #feedyourfamilylocal #qualityfood #supportsmallbusiness #joelsalatin #layinghens #favoritefarmanimal #whosyourfarmer #local #lovelocal See more

These are our cows. At the moment, there’s only 4 of them. There used to be quite a few more. . But we spent last summer chasing them bc our current fence situation leaves a lot of be desired. One morning we chased them 7 miles ON FOOT before noon . (We aren’t quite to the point yet where we can afford an ATV) .... Therefore, we sold many of our cows and, this winter, we’re planning and figuring and hopefully, soon, we’ll have new fences and many more cows. . That’s what winter is for in a lot of farms and ranches: Planning Figuring Arranging Budgeting All these tasks and thoughts are so necessary in order to make the spring, summer and fall manageable. . Just figured I’d set the record straight for anyone who thinks farmers and ranchers take the winter off. Ain’t nobody got time for that! . . #farminainteasy #whosyourfarmer #regenerativeagriculture #agvocate #supportsmallbusinesses #supportlocalfarmers #joelsalatin See more
