Just your friendly neighborhood dietitian (i.e. I have a degree in Nutritional Science and know what I'm talking about) checking in! I have some reminders for everyone. There is no magic shake, meal or snack replacement bar, cream or gel, wafer or juice fast that is actually healthy. PLEASE...please please realize that these companies out there talking nonsense like "nutritional cleansing" and promising more energy and better sleep, fast weight loss and every other thing und...er the sun will only result in a thinner wallet! Eating actual food...every day...drinking water...getting sleep...breaking a good sweat...that is what real health is based on. Your body does all the cleansing it needs when you fuel it with a minimally processed plant based diet. Your kidneys and liver (and intestines and pretty much all your organs) were specifically made for doing just that! If it sounds too good to be true...it probably is! Don't get scammed! See more

Does anyone actually know what season it is!? I wore a tank top today to the supermarket and saw people in winter coats! Anyway...a rainy, dreary day calls for comfort foods. Give this 1 pot cauli-lentil bolognaise a try. 1 small diced onion 4 minced garlic cloves 3 cups riced cauliflower... 1.5 cups green lentils- rinsed 28 oz can crushed tomatoes EVOO Low sodium veggie broth Oregano and basil, salt to taste Sautee the onion and garlic in 2T evoo until soft. Add in the lentils, tomatoes, cauli. Add In enough broth to cook the lentils (about 1 cup). Bring to a boil and then simmer until the lentils are soft, about 30 mins, adding more broth to keep it moist as needed . Finish with 1 tsp oregano and a handful of fresh basil. Salt as needed . This is great to eat alone, over pasta, zoodles, or with a slice of hearty bread.

HELLO!! Summer is (unofficially) here...which means farm stands! Check out your local farms and roadside stands. Fresh picked produce is sooo much yummier than stuff that has traveled in trucks, or even planes, from all over. Eat local, support your farms, get to know your farmers, talk to them about their growing practices and teach your kids where food actually comes from! Lots of U-pick strawberry places are open right now...don't miss the season.

I was pretty excited to find these adorable (yes, adorable) mini avocados at the supermarket yesterday. It totally solves the cut avocado storage problems . Perfect single serving! I LOVE avocados...my trick for always getting the perfect one: buy it hard, before people can push their fingers into it at the store. I let them sit on my counter for about 3 days until they are perfect! They will last another 3 days or so in the fridge .
