NEW RECOMMENDATIONS REGARDING DAILY ASPIRIN USE As a pharmacist for 35 years, one of the top 3 questions I'm asked is "should I take a baby aspirin every day"? Well it depends. According to new guidelines by the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association, daily aspirin use is NOT recommended for PRIMARY use in preventing a heart attack or stroke. The bleeding risk , especially in patients over 70, exceeds any cardiovascular disease prevention. This is ...a big change based on recent evidence. However, taking aspirin daily can be life saving for SECONDARY prevention in patients who previously had a heart attack or stroke. In these patients, the benefits of taking daily aspirin clearly outweigh bleeding risks.
